A woman’s body was discovered chained by the neck and weighed down underwater with two dumbbells in Thailand.
A chilling discovery was made on August 8 near the Ban Tha Yai pier in Phang Nga, where locals found the body of a woman floating in murky water.
Police and rescue workers rushed to the scene after shocked witnesses spotted the corpse, reportedly dressed in grey shorts and a brown round-neck T-shirt, drifting close to shore.
The victim’s identity, nationality, and address remain unknown. Authorities estimate she had been dead for about two days before surfacing.
One of the most disturbing aspects of the case is the heavy chain wrapped tightly around her neck, secured to the dumbbells - a grim attempt to keep her hidden underwater.
Despite these efforts, the body floated to the surface. Police Lieutenant Pheerawit Chaichanyut of Khok Kloi Police Station described the case as “serious” and confirmed that investigators are treating it as a possible murder.
“The way the body was weighted down points towards an attempt to conceal it,” he said, per The Mirror.
The body has been sent for a full autopsy to determine the cause of death and to establish whether the victim was alive when submerged.
Investigators are scouring through CCTV footage from the pier and nearby waterways in search of clues, while local leaders in Phang Nga and surrounding districts have been instructed to check for any missing persons matching the victim’s description.
Police have urged anyone with information, especially those who noticed unusual activity near Ban Tha Yai pier in recent days, to come forward immediately.
This case echoes other recent horrific discoveries in the Southeast Asian country involving bodies weighted down with dumbbells.
On February 7, 2025, rescue teams found a decomposing woman’s body stuffed inside a locked black rolling suitcase near a golf course in Rayong.
According to Pattaya News, the suitcase, about 28 inches in size and partially submerged, emitted a strong odor. Inside was the naked body of a woman believed to be around 30 years old, with dyed blonde hair and a suspected breast augmentation scar. She had likely been dead for at least five days.
Authorities found a 10-kilogram barbell placed inside the suitcase, presumably to weigh it down. Bloodstains on a concrete bridge leading to the pond suggested the body had been dumped there.
Police believe the woman was murdered elsewhere before her body was disposed of in the pond.
CCTV footage along the access route was under review, and investigators were coordinating with Chonburi police, where a missing person report had been filed recently.
