On Monday (August 19) a 160-foot luxury yacht, named the Bayesian, became caught in a violent storm during the early hours of the morning. Carrying 22 people (12 passengers and 10 crew members), the yacht was hit by a sudden and devastating waterspout tornado, causing it to capsize.

The Italian Coast Guard and local authorities launched an immediate rescue operation, managing to save 15 people, per Sky News.

Tragically, seven people have been confirmed to have died including British tech entrepreneur Mike Lynch and his teenage daughter Hannah, Morgan Stanley International bank chairman Jonathan Bloomer, his wife Judy Bloomer, Clifford Chance lawyer Chris Morvillo, his wife Neda Morvillo, and the boat’s chef Recaldo Thomas.

The Italian Coast Guard confirmed that the search for those missing had officially come to an end and a new investigation into the matter had been launched.

The Telegraph reported that a "manslaughter investigation into the sinking of the Bayesian superyacht is being considered by Italian authorities."

A report by the Daily Mail also stated that investigators will be reviewing the actions of the captain and first officer as well as examining security footage showing the moments before the ship capsized.

A new update on the matter has now been provided by prosecutor, Ambrogio Cartosio, who stated that this was a "very serious tragedy."

"On the 22nd [of August] we recovered the body of Michael Lynch, and on the 23rd we recovered the body of his 18-year-old daughter. Michael Lynch's daughter is a young girl, who really affected everybody. It’s a very serious tragedy," Cartosio said during a press conference on Saturday as per PEOPLE.

He then went into detail about the final moments the passengers must have endured before their deaths.

“It was quite clear that people were trying to hide in the cabins. In the left-hand side we found the first five bodies in the left-hand side cabins, and the final body on the right-hand side. We found them on the highest part of the ship which was closer to the surface. The vessel had three cabins on each side," he continued.

He also added that the five who "took refuge in the cabins on the left side of the sailboat," had been "searching for air pockets."

Our thoughts are with the victims' loved ones as the investigation continues.
