For almost two weeks, protests - some peaceful, some violent - have erupted across the US and around the world, as people have come together to call out the systemic injustices carried out against black people - not least seen by the recent deaths of George Floyd, Ahmaud Arbery, and Breonna Taylor.

As well as a call for justice, these ongoing protests are also demanding an end to police brutality and the racism that is so deeply entrenched in America and the western world.

The message is simple: Black lives matter.

However, it seems like one man in Toronto was determined to try and cause controversy after turning up to Saturday's (June 6) protest in Toronto while wearing blackface.

The man - whose identity has not been released by officials - was recorded shouting and arguing with demonstrators after being asked to leave, the New York Post reports.

The videos were captured by Global News Toronto reporter Kamil Karamali, who wrote on Twitter: "Someone wearing black face paint shows up at anti-Black racism protest at Nathan Phillips Square and is escorted out of the area by police."

In a follow-up tweet, Karamali writes: "Warning: lots of profanity. Tense moments as person wearing black face paint walks into crowd peacefully protesting against anti-Black racism. Tempers flare and there are calls to arrest the person."

In the video, the man can be heard shouting:  "If I want to put this on my face then I can put this on my face!"

In response, a protester shouts back: "You're f**king disrespectful! You’re a shame to all who came here."

In the videos, Toronto bike police can be seen hauling the man off as he continued to shout out protesters.

Police originally informed Global News that the man was arrested for breach of the peace and charged, but later told the outlet no charges have been made and that "inquiries continue".
