Per the Huffington Post, some hospitals in the nation have been supplying newborn babies with tiny face shields in an attempt to protect them from COVID-19, the disease caused by the novel coronavirus.

The images were captured by photographer Lillian Suwanrumpha and shared via Getty. Suwanrumpha captured the adorable shots at the Praram 9 Hospital in Bangkok on Thursday.

In the pictures, taken on the maternity ward, nurses in surgical masks can be seen cradling newborns wrapped in blankets and sporting teeny-tiny plastic visors - a bizarre sight because it is hard to deny that something so cute has come out of something so tragic.

In a statement posted to the official Praram 9 Hospital Facebook page (and translated by Buzzfeed News)  officials said the shields were being used "because safety is what we care about the most", and that the shields help block sneeze and cough droplets from reaching the infants' faces.

In another translated report by BBC Thailand, the miniature visors are also helping provide new parents with "peace of mind" during this challenging time.
