Viewers have poked fun at Team Norway's designers on social media after their winning triathlete's Olympic uniform turned see-through during competition.

Kristian Blummenfelt, 27, took part in the men's triathlon - which involved a 1.5km swim, a 40km cycle, and a 10km run - but unfortunately, it was his outfit that got more attention than his sporting achievement on social media, as per Indy100.

As the event began with a swim, it meant that the athletes were wet for the following two stages.

His all-white outfit became see-through as a result of the swim, leaving his black swim trunks on display for the rest of the race, which he completed in one hour, 45 minutes, and four seconds.

Watch the see-through outfit in action below:

Reacting to the see-through outfit, journalist Emily Benammar compared Blummenfelt's outfit to that of Superman as he crossed the finish line to win the gold medal.

"Triathlon commentary: 'Can we talk about the Norwegian try suits. They're a shocker. Whoever designed them needs to be sacked.'

"'They are of course his swimmers under there. Superman wears his underpants on the outside. They've got it wrong haven't they.'"

A second Twitter user suggested that the outfit could have been inspired by Captain Underpants.

They wrote: "Whoever designed Norway's triathlon kit for #TokyoOlympics2021 must have been inspired by Captain Underpants(?). Amazing finish by Blummenfelt though. Clearly the superhero outfit worked!"

Former American track athlete Kyle Merber wrote: "Did Norway think to test their triathlon uniform in water?"

A fourth Twitter user added: "I'm going to need someone to explain to me how any one could've thought Norway's #Triathlon uniforms were a good idea."

A fifth pointed out that while the outfits were certainly unusual, they didn't fail let Norway down when it came to being successful at the event.

They wrote: "Norway's Triathlon uniforms were a choice and a half, but it seems they're working for speed."

While the outfight might have embarrassed the 27-year-old athlete a little under any other circumstances, given that he won the first gold medal of his career in it, he is unlikely to care too much!

What do you think of Blummenfelt's see-through outfit? Let us know in the comments.
