A catastrophic rollercoaster incident has resulted in one death and several injuries at Stockholm's renowned amusement park, Grona Lund.
As reported by The Sun, The Jetline rollercoaster, a popular attraction at the park, partially derailed during its course, leading to a tragic accident.
Amidst the chaos and shock, a representative from Grona Lund confirmed the casualty count, stating the crash had led to one fatality and several injuries.
Eyewitness accounts detailed the harrowing event, describing the disarray as authorities rushed to secure the area. It was reported that the accident was so severe it caused the ride's wheels to detach.
Cecilia, an onlooker, told Aftonbladet: "First we heard three, four loud bangs. People started screaming and then people started running. At first they thought it was a shooting. Then we saw how the wheels from the cart were on the ground. That was probably what sounded so loud. It's terrible, this kind of thing can't happen."
With the park currently being evacuated, an investigation is underway, according to a police spokesperson.
Grona Lund, which has been operational for 140 years, will remain closed until further notice.
Jenny Lagerstedt, a journalist who was at the park with her family, shared her account with SVT, stating that she heard a metallic noise and observed the track shaking during the incident. She shared her husband's witness of the coaster car plummeting to the ground with terrified patrons on board.
Annika Troselius, Head of Information at the park, confirmed that the injuries are severe, though the full extent of the damage is yet to be established. She emphasized that their primary focus now is on aiding the victims and providing support to their staff.
Troselius told Aftonbladet: "The reason for that is something that we must return to. Everyone is one hundred percent focused on helping the victims now."
The Jetline rollercoaster, a steel-tracked ride capable of reaching speeds up to 56 mph and a height of 98 feet, is a major draw for the park, with over a million visitors riding it each year, as per the park's website.
