Aliyah Yugovich was admitted to St. John of God Murdoch Hospital in Perth Australia on June 28 for what was supposed to be a routine tonsillectomy - a fairly common procedure.

The young girl was discharged the following day from what seemed to be a "successful" operation, but just a few hours later, she was rushed back to hospital after displaying "flu-like" symptoms.

She and her mother waited hours to be seen before Aliyah was diagnosed with influenza A and discharged three days later.

Things continued to get worse at home as the three-year-old woke up vomiting blood.

This time she was rushed to Midland Hospital where placed in a coma but after conducting some scans, doctors determined that there was no brain activity and her life support machine was switched off the day after.

Aliyah’s mother, Jessica Yugovich, described her daughter as “too perfect for this world” in an emotional tribute on Facebook, as per 7News.

“Life will never be the same without you,” she wrote.

“You are the most beautiful girl to ever step foot on this earth. None of this is fair, it was never meant to be (this) way, but I hope you know how proud we are of you," she continued.

“You fought until the very end, but it’s time to let you rest. We love you to the moon and back, always and forever our little angel," the heartbroken mother added.

St John of God Health Care Acting Group chief executive Ben Edwards expressed condolences to the family.

“St John of God Health Care is deeply saddened by this news and express our heartfelt condolences for the family’s devastating loss of Aliyah," Edwards said. "We can confirm the patient underwent an elective procedure at St John of God Murdoch Hospital.

"Our priority at this time is to protect the family’s privacy and are therefore making no additional comments," he added.

Child and Adolescent Health Service acting chief executive Simon Wood said the death has been reported to the coroner, according to the West Australian.

"The Child and Adolescent Health Service offers the family our sincere condolences in relation to the passing of their child and extends our support in this time of grief,” he said in a statement. "The death has been reported to the coroner, as is the usual process, and the cause of death will be determined following coronial post-mortem examination and investigation.

In the wake of the tragedy, a GoFundMe page was set up "to help support Jess & Josh in [any way] possible as they live through every parent's worst nightmare."

"Aliyah was beautiful, smart, cheeky and so full of life," a family friend writes in the description. "She made everyone laugh and lit up the room. Her beautiful face will forever be etched in our memories."

"We can’t change what has happened or take away their pain, but we want to help where we can during this devastating time," the statement continued. "Anything you can contribute, big or small, it all helps."

The money will be used to help support the family during this period and also in aid of the funeral costs.

So far, over $75,000 [AUD] has been raised, which is approximately $50,800 USD.

Tributes have been pouring in for Aliyah as well as lots of kind messages of support also being left for the family while they mourn the loss of their loved one.

Our thoughts are with the family during this difficult time.
