While the Paris Opening Ceremony for the 2024 Summer Olympic Games may not have been everybody's cup of tea, some people are going a step further in their criticism of the event.

With the pouring rain, eccentric performances, and several other issues (such as an upside down flag), many viewers have branded the opening ceremony as the "worst in Olympics history".

However, some viewers have gone either further in their complaints, and criticized the Games for being under "Satanic control".

No, seriously.

Ever the outspoken X user, one critic was Andrew Tate, who took to the platform on Friday night to share a clip from the event, writing alongside the video: "Satanists control the west and they show you that they worship the devil.

"It’s not a conspiracy theory. They literally show you. Are you blind?"

Another X user shared the same clip, writing: "Dear Normies, You’re probably sat at home, watching the French Olympics thinking what the actual **** is this.

"Well it’s just another a conspiracy playing out in front of your very eyes.

"The one where we tell you - the World is run by satanic globalists who control everything. These people do very strange sick things & openly worship Satan or a brand of.

"They love showing this fact off. Do you see it yet? They’re not even hiding it."

The clip being shared and criticised shows a singer whose head is being cradled in her own arms. She could be seen singing out of a window to the heavy metal band Gojira, before "blood" red smoke and fire erupted.

Of course, although this may seem grim on the surface, this is - of course - a nod to a pretty big part of French history, as many X users were quick to point out to the conspiracy theorists.

"This was about the French revolution - learn some history," one person wrote.

Another bluntly replied: "It's Marie Antoinette, dumb*ss."

Of course, the actress in the window is playing Marie Antoinette - the last queen prior to the French Revolution. In 1793, she was beheaded via guillotine after being found guilty at trial of committing high treason.

Dark, sure. But the French Revolution is, of course, a huge part of the nation's history - so it's not surprising that organizers wanted to include the nod within the Opening Ceremony. And who better than one of the country's most successful and popular bands to provide the soundtrack?

Despite some people finding it all rather distasteful, there were fortunately plenty of other viewers who loved it:

With more than two weeks of sports and 6,800 athletes from 205 delegations ready to compete - this probably won't be the only controversy we see from the 2024 Summer Olympic Games.
