A plane has crashed into a building located on the outskirts of Milan killing all eight people onboard.
As reported by Reuters, Italian police have confirmed that the small private plane collided with the empty building on Sunday, October 3, resulting in the deaths of all eight people onboard. The Metro reports that the eight people on the plane were the pilot, co-pilot, and six passengers.
No other casualties have been reported.
According to officials, the plane was destined for the Mediterranean island of Sardinia after it had taken off from Milan's Linate city airport.
However, the plane collided with a two-story building near a suburban metro station in San Donato Milanese. Further tragedy was avoided as the building was empty due to the building undergoing renovations.
Locals in the area report hearing a loud blast as the plane hit the building.
Reuters reports that witnesses could see smoke and flames following the collision, and several nearby vehicles also caught fire.
The Italian newspaper La Repubblica has reported that the six passengers onboard were French nationals, with one of them being a young boy - however, these details have yet to be confirmed.
Despite emergency services rushing to the scene, none of those onboard were able to be saved.
Images from the site show firefighters tackling the subsequent blaze.
The Mirror reports that an investigation is now underway to determine the cause of the crash.
