5 major questions as reality TV star found dead 'half naked' on Canary Islands
The body of a woman discovered in a natural pool on the Spanish island of Gran Canaria has been identified as Annabella Lovas, a 32-year-old who rose to fame on the 2021 Hungarian version of The Bachelor.
Detectives confirmed her identity through dental records after forwarding a tooth to Interpol, finally solving a mystery that had dragged on for months, La Provincia reported.
But while her identity is now known, the circumstances surrounding her death remain unclear. Officers have admitted they are still unsure about the exact cause, even after extensive forensic work. Lovas had previously been reported missing in November 2024 before being found safe days later at a flat in Playa del Ingles.
Her death has sparked widespread attention, with several puzzling details leaving investigators and fans searching for answers.
No fingerprints and DNA mystery
One of the biggest challenges facing investigators was the condition of Lovas' body. She had been in the water for an estimated three weeks, which severely damaged her fingertips, leaving her with no fingerprints.
Although she had identifiable tattoos on her shoulder and back, DNA testing also proved difficult. The deteriorated samples meant forensic specialists could not achieve a positive match with relatives, even after two attempts.
Found ‘half naked’ in remote location
Lovas was found "semi-naked" in a natural pool, raising immediate questions about how she ended up there and what happened in her final moments.
The location itself added another layer of mystery. Police chief Pablo Fernandez Sala told La Provincia: "Colleagues tried to reach the natural pool to reconstruct her last steps and carry out a visible inspection on the ground but it was impossible.
"You would have needed to be a professional climber, not just any hiker, to reach the spot. All we had to go on initially were some strange tattoos she had on her shoulder and back."
How did she get there and what happened before death?
Investigators believe Lovas may have died elsewhere on the island before storm flash floods carried her body to the remote ravine where it was eventually found.
Reports suggest she had run out of money and ended up on the streets before her death. Police have ruled out a violent death and are not treating the case as criminal.
The identification process itself was long and complex. Sala explained: "The mould of the tooth was sent though Interpol and provided conclusive data.
"Once you have a name, it's easier to find out because most people have a dental record. A set of teeth is like a fingerprint; it has its characteristic points. The dentition is the safe of the human body and what lasts the most at high temperatures."
Despite finally putting a name to the victim, key questions remain about how Lovas ended up in such an inaccessible location, why she was found without clothing, and what led to her death.
