Russia tests WW3 warning sirens while state TV claims it could destroy the British Army in 'weeks'
Russia appears to be tightening its internal preparedness as tensions escalate across the world, with recent developments raising fears that wider conflict could be on the horizon.
The world has been on edge following a dramatic weekend in which the United States and Iran reportedly coordinated strikes on targets in Iran, triggering widespread instability across the Middle East.
The situation has added to existing geopolitical strain, with several regions already grappling with ongoing military conflicts.
At the same time, the war between Russia and Ukraine continues to grind on after four years of fighting, fueling concern that the combination of multiple global crises could spiral into a much larger confrontation.
Putin ally warns World War 3 could ‘undoubtedly begin’
Earlier this week, one of Vladimir Putin’s closest allies, Dmitry Medvedev, issued a stark warning about the potential for a global conflict if tensions continue to escalate.
Medvedev suggested that World War 3 would “undoubtedly begin” if US President Donald Trump fails to change course.
According to Medvedev, if the commander-in-chief “continues his insane course of criminal regime change”, an international conflict will likely kick off.
“And any event could be the trigger,” he added, before describing the US and its allies participating in the clash with Iran as “pigs” who “don’t want to give up their trough”.
With both Moscow and China holding interests in the Middle East, the warning has intensified concerns about how far current tensions could spread if diplomatic efforts fail.
Russia conducts nationwide warning siren test
Amid the mounting geopolitical anxiety, Russia carried out a nationwide test of its public warning siren system earlier this week, per The Mirror.
The exercise, organized by Russia’s emergencies ministry, took place across the country’s vast territory, sounding alarms through all 11 time zones.
Officials instructed residents not to panic if they heard the sirens during the drill, explaining that the alerts are designed to signal potential threats or emergencies.
Citizens were advised that in a real situation they should immediately turn on the nearest television or radio to receive further instructions.
In the city of Yekaterinburg, a television channel temporarily halted regular programming to notify viewers that the test was about to take place.
A message displayed on screen warned: “ATTENTION EVERYONE! THE PUBLIC ALERT SYSTEM IS BEING TESTED! PLEASE REMAIN CALM!”
Russia’s emergencies ministry explained the purpose of the system in a statement.
“The warning system is designed to promptly transmit a signal to the public in the event of a threat or emergency of natural or man-made origin,” it said.
“On hearing a siren, you must remain calm and not panic. Turn on the television - any public channel or radio - and listen to the informational announcement.”
The timing of the nationwide drill has prompted speculation among observers that Moscow may be preparing its domestic systems for potential escalation on the world stage.
Russian state TV mocks size of British army
While Russia appears to be strengthening internal readiness, state media figures have also been openly mocking the United Kingdom’s military strength, per the Daily Star.
State television host Vladimir Solovyov questioned whether Britain could realistically challenge Russia militarily.
“We just need to understand the size of the British Army. How many do they have now?” he asked.
Military expert Andrei Klintsevich responded by saying: “75,000, including those with fur hats [bearskins] and so on.”
Solovyov then suggested Russia could defeat such a force relatively quickly.
“That’s two months of our work, and it will be completely destroyed, using conventional methods,” he said, before ridiculing Sir Keir Starmer’s suggestion to send British troops to Ukraine to help enforce a peace agreement.
“This army will be worn down in two months,” Solovyov continued. “Even strikes with conventional weapons and a large number of coffins going to Britain will raise the question: what are you idiots doing?
“There are no logistics to deliver them there, nor anywhere to place them [...] They will be immediately destroyed by precision strikes.”
