Ryan Reynolds and Blake Lively will match donations for Ukraine up to $1,000,000

Ryan Reynolds and Blake Lively have voiced their support for Ukraine and vowed to match donations for the country up to $1,000,000.

On Saturday evening, the celebrity couple called for others to donate in order to support Ukrainian refugees fleeing their homes following Russia's invasion.

Writing to his 18.9 million followers on Twitter, the 45-year-old Deadpool star shared a message from the USA for United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, which detailed the couple's generous intentions.

"In 48 hours, countless Ukrainians were forced to flee their homes to neighboring countries. They need protection. When you donate, we’ll match it up to $1,000,000, creating double the support," Reynold wrote, attaching a link for the UNHCR's donation page for displaced Ukrainians.

Lively, 34, also shared the UNHCR's message with her followers, writing: "@VancityReynolds & I are doubling every $ donated to @UNRefugeeAgency up to $1,000,000 click below if you can join us @UNRefugeeAgency is on the ground providing lifesaving aid, & working with neighboring countries to ensure protection for the 50,000+ who were just forced to flee."

On Instagram, she added: "She continued, "@usaforunhcr is on the ground helping the 50,000+ Ukrainians who had to flee their homes in less than 48 hours.

"@usaforunhcr is providing life saving aid, and also working with neighboring countries to ensure protection for these families."

Per the Associated Press, at least 150,000 people have fled Ukraine into Poland and other neighboring countries following Putin's "special military operation", which was launched by land, air, and sea on Thursday.

The UN refugee agency said on Saturday that many people had fled Ukraine by train, car, or bus - with others walking miles throughout the night in order to reach neighboring borders.

As reported by CNN, unrest has continued throughout Saturday night into Sunday throughout Ukraine.

The outlet reports that there has been heavy gunfire throughout the western district of the Ukrainian capital Kyiv on Saturday evening, resulting in the death of a six-year-old boy.

Additionally, a woman was killed after a residential building in the eastern city of Kharkiv was hit by "enemy artillery, Ukraine's state emergency service reported.

Early Sunday morning, two large explosions were seen roughly 18 miles south of Kyiv.
