French streaming star Raphaël Graven, best known as Jean Pormanove on social media, was found unresponsive on August 17–18 at his home in Contes, Alpes-Maritimes.

The prosecutor's office in Nice has launched an official investigation into the circumstances surrounding the 46-year-old's death.

Early findings suggest that there is “nothing suspicious” at this stage, although an autopsy is expected to be conducted in the coming days to determine the cause of death, per Dexerto.

Pormanove was a prominent figure in the streaming community on platforms like Kick and TikTok. He was known for his wide range of content, from gaming sessions to controversial streams that sparked public outrage.

French media outlets, including BFMTV and La Provence, have reported that he had been allegedly subjected to "ten days and nights of torture" by his fellow streamers, Naruto and Safine. Sources suggest this included extreme physical violence, sleep deprivation, and the forced ingestion of toxic substances.

Critics within the streaming community argue that this abusive environment likely contributed to his untimely death, with video compilations of these abusive streams gaining significant traction online.

One troubling message, reportedly sent by Pormanove to his mother just days before his death, revealed his distress. In the message, he felt like he was “being held hostage” and revealed he was “fed up” with the ongoing live streams.

The news of the French star's death has ignited outrage across France, with many calling for accountability from both his abusers and the platforms hosting such content.

"Rest in peace, nobody deserves to be treated the way you were," one fan wrote on Instagram. "Strength to the loved ones and may justice be served," another commented.

A third shared: "Rest in peace JP your entertainment and laughter will remain engraved on the internet," and a fourth added: "All viewers and streamers who participated in his harassment are responsible."

France's Minister for Digital Affairs, Clara Chappaz, also spoke out and said the content creator had been "humiliated and abused for months," per Sky News.

"A judicial investigation is underway," she continued. "Holding online platforms responsible for the dissemination of illegal content is not an option: it is the law. This type of failure can lead to the worst and has no place in France, Europe, or anywhere else."

Sarah El Hairy, France's high commissioner for children, described his death as "horrifying," and added: "Platforms have an immense responsibility to regulate online content so that our children are not exposed to violent content...I urge parents to be extremely vigilant."

In January 2025, Naruto and Safine were briefly taken into custody under suspicion of producing and broadcasting degrading videos of vulnerable individuals, though they were released the same day.

As the investigation unfolds, Kick has responded to the growing scandal. A spokesperson said they were “urgently reviewing” the circumstances surrounding Pormanove’s death and promised to cooperate with authorities and other stakeholders to conduct an internal investigation into the matter.

"We are deeply saddened by the loss of Jean Pormanove and extend our condolences to his family, friends, and community," they continued. "Kick's community guidelines are designed to protect creators, and we remain committed to upholding these standards across our platform."

Our thoughts are with Pormanove's loved ones at this time.
