A 34-year-old woman was discovered dead in her Romanian apartment after her two pet pugs reportedly began feeding on her body.
Earlier this year, Adriana Neagoe was found lifeless in her home in Târgu Jiu, northwest of Bucharest, after concerned family members raised the alarm when they hadn’t heard from her in five days.
Relatives who visited the flat received no response and eventually alerted emergency services.
Police and firefighters forced their way into the apartment, where they made the disturbing discovery of Neagoe’s half-eaten body on the floor.
According to police, Neagoe’s two pugs were found next to her remains. Ambulance crews confirmed her death at the scene, noting there were no immediate signs of violence.
They also shared that there were signs of cadaveric lividity - a purplish skin discoloration that occurs after death, due to the position she was found lying in.
Pugs removed as tributes pour in
Neagoe’s dogs were removed from the apartment by local council workers, and police issued a shelter order for both animals.
News of her shocking death stunned friends and family, many of whom took to social media to express their grief.
“Another angel has gone to heaven,” her sister Maria Alexandra wrote in a heartfelt tribute on Facebook. “My beautiful sister Anda Sasha is no longer among us," per The Sun.
One mourner said: “Condolences, I can’t believe it. I am so sorry.” Another added: “My deepest condolences to you! I am in shock! What happened to her?”
Others echoed the heartbreak, with messages like, “I am devastated! May God protect her and give you the strength to overcome."
Neagoe’s case recalls another haunting incident from 2013, when a 56-year-old woman in Hampshire, UK, was discovered dead and partially eaten by her own pets after lying undiscovered for weeks.
Per the Daily Mail, the woman was found on the kitchen floor of her home after neighbors grew concerned and reported an overflowing mailbox.
Officers entered the house and saw what was described as a “distressing scene,” with several dead animals in the kitchen and living room, and other surviving pets having apparently resorted to feeding on her remains.
Coroner Keith Wiseman ruled her death was from natural causes and confirmed that her cats had fed on her body after being left without food.
“It was clear that certain parts of [the] body were missing and had… effectively been gnawed and eaten away by the animals,” he said. “One can only imagine the difficulty with the scene the officer was having to deal with.”
The woman had a history of chest conditions, and it was believed her pets had been trapped in the downstairs rooms for weeks - possibly months - without sustenance.
