There has been yet another heartbreaking update in the story of the woman who believes she may be the missing Madeleine McCann.

Last month, a 21-year-old Polish woman called Julia Wandelt went viral on social media after posting comparisons between herself and the missing Madeleine.

McCann, from the UK, disappeared in 2007 while on vacation with her parents in Portugal. At the time of the three-year-old child's disappearance, her parents were dining with friends at a nearby tapas restaurant.

She has never been found and her story has been making headlines ever since.

Wandelt amassed a staggering number of followers on her social media pages, as she shared similarities in appearance with the missing child, such as her freckles and an eye condition.

While Julia has built a huge social media following as a result of her claims, she has also said that she is not looking for fame and truly believes that there is a possibility that she could be Madeleine McCann. However, Wandelt's claims have been questioned regarding their validity.

For example, detective Francisco Marco - who was hired by the McCanns to lead an investigation years ago - told the Spanish newspaper El Independiente in response: "Without knowing the details in depth, it doesn’t add up to me. I don’t think it’s her."

Nevertheless, Wandelt's journey has taken her to Los Angeles, where her story is being investigated by private detective and psychic medium Dr. Fia Johansson, as reported by The Sun.

Dr. Johansson revealed on Instagram that she had flown Julia to LA after the 21-year-old started receiving threats from trolls on social media.

Julia has also allegedly provided samples for DNA tests, including a DNA test similar to a 23andMe test that aims to establish her ancestry.

"We are still waiting on the result of DNA testing that will show us exactly what Julia’s ethnic background is and what country she and her true family are from. These kinds of tests are very accurate," Dr. Johansson said to The Sun.

However, Dr. Johansson has also revealed that tests have flagged multiple concerns regarding Julia's health.

"Now the focus is on Julia as a person - not Madeleine," Dr. Johansson said. "She has had a neglected childhood and suffered much abuse.

"Her health is very poor she has bad asthma and she suffers lots of pain in her bones."

She continued - with Julia's permission: "She is booked in for a CT and MRI scan because of the pain in her bones.

"Her blood work is also abnormal so my doctor here in the US is investigating whether she could have leukemia so we are awaiting the results of that. And if she needs any treatment we will make sure she gets that."

The pair expect to receive the results of Julia's DNA tests next week.

Ever since going viral with her bold claims, the pair have also softened the allegations that Julia may be Madeleine McCann.

"Julia has never said, 'I am Madeleine McCann'," Dr. Johansson said, despite the 21-year-old changing her Instagram handle to "@iammadeleinemcan", which has since been changed.

"[Julia] has lots of questions about her past and she asked for help. We are open to all possibilities," Dr. Johansson added.

In the meantime, we wish Julia the very best at this time.
