A couple has made history after they secured the top spot for the World's Most Tattooed Senior Citizens for the fourth year running and they say they have no regrets about inking 98% of their bodies.

Charlotte Guttenberg, 76, and Charles Helmke, 81 from Melbourne, Florida, both hold the coveted title in their respective genders after spending a combined total of 2,000 hours in the tattooist's chair in order to get to be graced with the honor.

As per the Daily Mail, the pair ironically met at a tattoo parlor where they hit it off and started dating, and now, almost two decades later, they have both reached a milestone that many could only dream of.

Charlotte, who started getting tattoos aged 57 after her ex-husband died, has now decided she's done with the ink as she has 98.75% of her body covered while her husband, Charles AKA Chuck, is straying slightly behind with 97.5%. With a bit more room left on his body, he plans on matching his wife.

Speaking to the Daily Star, the 76-year-old said: "I consider myself a walking art gallery. Some people buy art and hang it on the walls - I have it on my body. Young people tell me I'm cool and how they wish their grandmothers were like that."

Not only does Charlotte hold the record for the World's Most Tattooed Senior Citizens, but she's also snatched the Guinness World record for the most feather tattoos on a person, with 216.

Chuck on the other hand got his first tattoo when he was just 18 while he was training in the US army. Despite this, he waited until he was 41 to get his second tattoo and things have been evolving ever since.

Just like his wife, the 81-year-old also holds other world records including the most skull tattoos on one person, with 376 spread across his body.

Check out what the pair had to say about their tattoos:

During a 2017 interview with the Independent, the pair told the outlet that they chose to have so many tattoos "because they can."

"There is no limit on the amount anyone can have, it is only limited by your own desire. It is up to the individual," they said. "We both have body suits that are Oriental and Spiritual in theme, although they are very different. Our tattoos tell the story we each want to tell.

"It seems we both have a lot to say."

The couple also told the outlet about their favorite designs.

"My favourite has to be the memorial tattoo to my deceased wife," Chuck said. "It includes her name and her two favourite stuffed toys that travelled numerous times to Japan with us, as well as to other places. It has her ashes tattooed into it."

Guttenberg's favorite is her first, a colorful butterfly on a peony, because represented the start of her tattoo journey.
