A newborn baby who is believed to be the youngest victim of the COVID-19 coronavirus is reported to be "out of danger and recovering", per the Daily Mail.
The alarm was raised prior to the child's birth when their mother was admitted to hospital with a suspected case of pneumonia, The Sun first reported on Friday.
It was only after she delivered her child that they were both diagnosed with coronavirus. The newborn is believed to have contracted the disease shortly after their birth in London from their mother's coughs or sneezes.
They were subsequently treated at different hospitals, the mother at a specialist infections hospital and the baby at North Middlesex.

They wrote: "Currently, the primary concern is not whether the virus can be transmitted through breastmilk, but rather whether an infected mother can transmit the virus through respiratory droplets during the period of breastfeeding."
Per the Daily Mail, officials have said that even if pregnant women and their babies contract COVID-19, they are likely to only experience mild symptoms.

In all affected countries, those most likely to experience complications from the virus are the elderly and those with preexisting health conditions.
Two days ago, President Trump declared the virus, which was recently upgraded to a pandemic by the WHO, as a "national emergency", and yesterday extended the US's travel ban to include the UK and Ireland, per the Guardian.
