The special relationship between fathers and their
daughters has been well documented since the dawn of mass media. With everything from novels to motion pictures touching on the subject, we've been made aware that our relationship with our fathers (or in some cases, the lack thereof) can seriously shape our futures, and affect the kind of person that we grow up to be. And, while society espouses that fathers are meant to instill their children with good values and a strong moral compass, in reality,
dads can and do make mistakes when it comes to their kids. I mean, they are human too.
People have a lot to say, however, about one particular father-daughter duo, who share the same hobby: pole dancing. While no one openly denounced pole dancing as a pastime, they did think it was bizarre that the father and
daughter chose to do the risqué dance practice together.
Viewers of ITV's This Morning were left uncomfortable after watching the world's first father-daughter pole dancing act show off their talents. Dave and Hazel Roberts appeared on the talk show opposite hosts, Eamonn Holmes and Ruth Langsford, to perform one of their dance routines. And the unlikely pairing also revealed how they had got into pole dancing in the first place.
Father, Dave, said that he was the first to take up the hobby, after an ex-girlfriend "pestered him for three weeks" to go with her as she did not want to attend a pole dancing class on her own. However, his daughter, Hazel, took up the sport while attending university in Ireland. She was unaware of her dad's pole dancing until she sent him a photograph of her practicing, and he replied by sending her a picture of him doing the crucifix pose on a dance pole.
Speaking of how they got into practicing the activity together, Dave revealed that it was actually his pole dancing instructor who proposed the idea. "It was my instructor. She puts on a show every year in London and she said, 'it’d be a good idea why don’t you give it go and do it together?'" he said.
Hazel corroborated, "I didn’t want to do it by myself, I get stage fright. So it’s a lot nicer if you can share the stage with somebody. I wouldn’t trust anybody else not to drop me." To which her father laughingly responded, "To this day, I’ve only dropped her once."
However, viewers of This Morning weren't all that taken with this particular daddy-daughter activity. One Twitter user wrote, "I’m really disturbed by this father and daughter pole dance act! I just don’t get it", while another corroborated "I can’t be the only one that found that daughter - Dad pole-dancing duo weird as f**k." One viewer just added, "Didn't enjoy that one bit I'm afraid".

While it's certainly an unconventional hobby to share with your father, if it works for them, then so be it.
