Radio stars fired for taunting guest about being homeless and eating out of trashcan
A couple of radio show hosts in Hawaii have been fired after taunting a guest about her early childhood experiences, which included being homeless and going hungry, Metro reports.
The former radio stars, Kreyz Oshiro and Vic Harris, have been forced off the radio station in Honolulu after ridiculing singer Paula Fuga as part of a talent show fundraiser for a food bank.
Sharing her incredibly poignant experiences as a child, Fuga said, per Metro: "When I was a little kid, I used to be homeless on the beach, so I benefited from things like this, from people giving. I’ve eaten from a trash can when I was a little girl - I’ve been hungry before."

One of the two hosts then started joking around and asked the singer if she ate "right out of the trash can, or do you put it on a plate first."
Fuga became emotional as she answered, revealing that she had been forced to eat whatever she could from garbage cans, and said: "[she] could cry thinking about it."
Undeniably unsettled, Fuga asked the pair if they "wanted a visual," and then asked them if they had a box of tissues.

But yet again, Oshiro and Harris continue to mock their guest, replying: "No, but we’ve got a trash can right over there by the bar."
"What, just in case she’s hungry?" His co-host added.
Fuga then responded: "I don’t eat from a trash can anymore."
Social media has been up in arms over the highly insensitive handling of the interview, which prompted execs to ax the hosts.

A spokesman for KDNN owner iHeart Radio said, per The Desk:
"The on-air comments made by (Harris and Oshiro) this past Friday were highly insensitive and do not represent the values of Island 98.5 FM or iHeart Radio Honolulu and our commitment to the communities we serve.
"We want to sincerely apologize to Paula Fuga and to any others who were offended. Please know that the situation has been addressed internally’ Both DJs have since taken to the internet to post their own groveling apologies to Fuga."
