The entertainment industry undoubtedly issued a collective groan earlier this afternoon after it emerged that
Taylor Swift was engaged in yet
another feud. Yes, 27-year-old Taylor is a far cry from the Shirley Temple-haired songstress who hit screens back in 2006 with her saccharine-sweet tales of teenage romance and heartbreak.
Now, as she's made clear on her recent record, the old Taylor is gone
. Certainly, in the music video to Look What You Made Me Do, even the empowered Taylor of 2014's 1989 has been buried under a tombstone, which reads "Taylor Swift's reputation". And then after of all the allusions to snakes, at the end of the song, the "new" Taylor tells the "old" that "she can't come to the phone right now". Why? "Because she's dead".
And apparently, Swift's loyal fan-base have grown with her too, for they did not hold back one bit when it appeared that Diplo had reignited his historic feud with Swift.
Back in 2014, the DJ, producer and songwriter, Diplo, started some serious beef with Taylor and it didn't work out too well for him.
Diplo very rudely started a crowdfunding campaign to, er, get Taylor "a booty", and her fans turned on him with such vigour that he compared it to being attacked by North Korea.

While Diplo and Tay-tay appeared to have put the incident behind them, it appears that Diplo has recently re-opened that whole can of worms. Speaking in a recent Rolling Stone profile, Diplo flung some rather pointed jibes at one of Taylor's latest tracks, the rather controversial Look What You Made Me Do. And yeah, he's probably started a new feud in the process.
When quizzed on how streaming services such as Spotify, Apple Music and Tidal influence what songs become chart-toppers, the DJ said:
“Music is in the hands of the kids. Streaming is literally what kids want to listen to over and over again. They want to listen to [Post Malone‘s] ‘Rockstar‘ and Cardi B‘s] ‘Bodak Yellow‘ – they don’t want to listen to, like, [Taylor Swift’s] ‘Look What You Made Me Do’. That music doesn’t relate to them at all. I don’t think it ever did. They were only given that by radio, and marketing budgets. I’m impressed with Post Malone. I can relate to him more than Taylor Swift.”
And Taylor Swift's fanbase were clearly
not impressed. Many took to Twitter to air their grievances.
One Twitter user wrote, "
@diplo repeat after me “I’m not going to use Taylor ever again for publicity”, while another corroborated "Diplo sweetie if you don't like Taylor stop talking abt her that's easy u see".
In fact, some Swifties even went so far as to flood Diplo's social media accounts with the snake emoji - a symbol that Taylor has reclaimed since she launched Reputation.
Well, I guess we will just have to watch with bated breath to see how this feud develops. Knowing Taylor, it may even be referenced in an upcoming single...
