It's safe to say that
is primarily known for being an American heartthrob. Yes, the man holds numerous acting credits to his name, but in a world where women are objectified on a daily basis, it's rather fun to give men a dose of their own medicine, no? But before all the meninists of the world invade the comments section, rest assured, it's all
ok
- the 37-year-old Step Up actor doesn't seem to mind one bit. I mean, he took the leading role in Magic Mike, a film inspired by his career as a stripper.
Magic Mike did for women what every film since the dawn of the industry has done for men: blatantly sexualised the opposite sex. However, it appears that Tatum, despite being so open about his past as an adult entertainer, isn't as proud of his stripping credits as one may assume. In fact, he recently revealed that he kept the knowledge very quiet from his family.
As it turns out, the whole of Hollywood knew about Tatum's exotic dancing career before his own father did. He recently revealed that his dad, Glenn, only discovered the truth after he saw him giving television host,
, a lap dance on her chat show back in February 2010.
When chatting to Ellen on the
show, Channing Tatum revealed that his first appearance on Ellen's eponymous chat show lead to his father discovering the truth about his past as a stripper. He said, "That was my very first time on your show, and I got to let you know that that was the very first time that my dad actually found out that I was a stripper for a short time."
During his appearance on the Ellen DeGeneres show in 2010, the actor was asked about his career as a stripper by Ellen. He then proceeded to give the television personality a mini lap dance to which the audience responded with whoops and cheers.
However, until now, Ellen had no idea that she was partially responsible for breaking the news to his father. "'wait, your dad didn't know you were stripper until that day? How did he take it", she asked on the Jimmy Kimmel show last night.

Tatum then went on to reveal that his father didn't have the best reaction to the news. When asked how Glenn responded, Tatum replied "not well, really, really not well", before breaking out into awkward laughter.
Speaking to People in April, Tatum elaborated on his career as a stripper, saying that he doesn't "miss anything about stripping". “I stripped in Tampa for like 25 girls, at best. It wasn’t glamorous whatsoever, so there’s nothing that I miss about stripping,” he continued.
Well, I don't know about you - but I'm just thankful that Channing Tatum got it together to give us Magic Mike, despite his clear distaste towards the industry.
