Not only is Wonder Woman an incredibly coveted role for actresses to play, but the female superhero is also an enduring symbol of female empowerment. In the decidedly male-dominated world of
Marvel, Wonder Woman stands out as the
only female superhero protagonist. While the character practically revels in her femininity (often clad in a figure-hugging leotard), it's a shame that the image of Wonder Woman that we have come to know today is wholly tethered to her assumed sexuality. This concept was reinforced back in the seventies, when Wonder Woman got her first on-screen debut in the form of Lynda Carter.
In the present day, Gal Gadot has come to represent Wonder Woman for a new generation of cinema-goers, but us old-timers will forever associate the canonical role with Lynda Carter. The former Miss World is best known for being the star of the American live-action television series, Wonder Woman - where she played the roles of Diana Prince and Wonder Woman. Based on the fictional superhero of the DC comic books, the series ran from 1975 through to 1979. It appears that Carter seems to inherited some of her alter ego's special powers, as she hasn't aged
a day.
Attending the premiere of this year's Wonder Woman which starred Israeli actress, Gal Gadot, 65-year-old Lynda Carter showed off her age-defying looks.
The actress showed that she could still hold her own in a chic black suit, which she paired with a white T-shirt and a pair of pointy black stilettos. She posed next to the latest Wonder Woman, who sizzled in a red, cut-out gown.
Carter posted several images of the night on her Instagram profile, where she urged people to go watch the new film. She wrote, "Go see @gal_gadot in the @wonderwomanfilm this weekend! You are going to love her!"

The former Wonder Woman has become an enduring celebrity figure because of her role in the 70's television series, where she wore the iconic Wonder Woman costume that we know and love today. The racy outfit transformed Carter into a sex icon, but she's repeatedly spoken out about how all the attention completely took her by surprise. Speaking to a US magazine, she explained:
"I never meant to be a sexual object for anyone but my husband. I never thought a picture of my body would be tacked up in men's bathrooms. I hate men looking at me and thinking what they think. And I know what they think. They write and tell me."

After starring in a string of commercially successful television series and movies, Lynda created her own production company during the nineties, Potomac Productions. She also had a short-lived musical career, recording an album titled Portrait, in the late 1970's.
Well, it's safe to say that we all want to age as gracefully as Wonder Woman. I mean, those are some
seriously good genes.
