Boxer Roy Jones Jr. announces heartbreaking death of son

Boxer Roy Jones Jr. has revealed that his son, DeAndre, tragically passed away.

The 55-year-old boxer issued a heartbreaking statement on social media in which he announced that his son DeAndre died by suicide on Saturday (June 22).

"I'm so thankful that God allowed me to come home Friday night to spend the last night of his life with me and the family," Jones continued. “I know a lot of people are going through tough times right now, but nothing is worth taking your own life."

"God gives it and God should be the one to take it away," he continued, adding: “Please respect our privacy while my family and I process this loss. Thank you for the love and support."

Jones Jr is regarded as an all-time boxing great with a record of 66-10. He held world titles in four weight divisions throughout his 35-year professional career.

His son DeAndre, born on July 1, 1992, was the youngest of three children that he shared with his wife Natlyn.

The 32-year-old had a twin brother named DeShaun and an older brother Roy III. During his teenage years, the late man formed a rap trio called ‘3D’ with DeShaun and their cousin Dyllon Burnside.

Tributes have been flooding in for Jones Jr and his family's loss.

A family friend posted on X (formerly Twitter): "So sorry for your loss Roy. I have fond memories of playing pickup with DeAndre and DeShaun in your garage gym in pcola as well as at the rec at UWF."

"Always such nice people and so welcoming to even the most random folks like myself. Thinking of you and the rest of your family," they added.

Another fan penned: "Prayers to your family Mr. Jones. I can't imagine what you and your family are going through right now. Stay strong."

A third added: "My sincerest and most profound condolences my brother. May the Lord instill the strength and guidance to you, his mother, and family in these most darkest of times."

A few famous faces also expressed condolences on Instagram. UFC champion Mike Swick shared: "I was in a very similar situation when I was young and feel your pain and confusion. I couldn’t agree with you more! Stay strong Champ!!"

"My deepest condolences brother I am so sorry. Praying for your family," former boxer Amir Khan added.

Authorities are yet to confirm any details surrounding DeAndre’s death.
