Donald Trump has lashed out at some of his former supporters, calling them “weaklings” for buying into what he described as Democratic “bulls**t” about Jeffrey Epstein, and now Elon Musk has weighed in.
The outburst, shared on Truth Social on Wednesday, marked the former president’s strongest response yet to growing pressure from allies and critics alike demanding more transparency around the federal investigation into the late sex offender.
Epstein died by suicide in jail in 2019, but public suspicion and conspiracy theories have persisted ever since.
“Their new SCAM is what we will forever call the Jeffrey Epstein Hoax, and my PAST supporters have bought into this ‘bulls**t,’ hook, line, and sinker,” Trump wrote, via CBS News. “Let these weaklings continue forward and do the Democrats' work… I don’t want their support anymore!”
The statement came days after the Justice Department said it would not release further documents related to the Epstein case and confirmed no “client list” exists, a decision that has drawn bipartisan frustration on Capitol Hill.
Musk, a former Trump ally, mocked the former president’s latest statements, writing on X: “Wow, amazing that Epstein ‘killed himself’ and Ghislaine is in federal prison for a hoax. He should just release the files and point out which part is the hoax.”
Republican lawmakers, including some closely aligned with Trump, are now ramping up pressure.
House Speaker Mike Johnson called for transparency, saying: “We should put everything out there and let the people decide,” according to The Guardian.
Former Vice President Mike Pence added: “Anyone who participated or was associated with this despicable man ought to be held up to public scrutiny.”
Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene and Congressman Thomas Massie are pushing to force a floor vote that would require the Justice Department to release all Epstein-related files.
The effort, via a discharge petition, would need 218 signatures, likely requiring Democratic support, and cannot begin collecting until lawmakers return from recess in September.
Trump initially dismissed the controversy as a distraction, saying it detracted from his administration’s achievements.
“I have had more success in 6 months than perhaps any president in our country’s history, and all these people want to talk about, with strong prodding by the Fake News and the success starved Dems, is the Jeffrey Epstein Hoax,” he said, per Al Jazeera.
Public interest in the Epstein case continues to build, with lawmakers on both sides weighing further oversight, including the possibility of public testimony from Ghislaine Maxwell, currently serving a 20-year sentence.
