Rapper Rich Homie Quan dies aged 34

Rapper Rich Homie Quan has sadly died at the age of 34.

The musician, whose real name is Dequantes Devontay Lamar, was found dead at his home in Atlanta on Thursday (September 5).

Rumors of his passing began circulating on social media, with family members confirming the devastating news to TMZ.

His loved ones reportedly told the publication that they are "shattered and heartbroken by his sudden death," and are "desperately searching for answers" following their loss.

The rapper began rapping in 2011 and broke into the mainstream with his 2013 single 'Type of Way' which charted in the top 50 on the Billboard Top 100. He then followed it up with 'Flex (Ooh, Ooh, Ooh)' and 'Ride Out'. 

He achieved further fame as part of the group Rich Gang, alongside Atlanta rapper Young Thug, as part of a Cash Money Records project, and collaborated with other big names including 2 Chainz, Gucci Mane, and Trinidad James.

He was also nominated for multiple BET and BET Hip Hop Awards, such as Best New Artist and the People's Champ award.

Since the 'Lifestyle' rapper's death was announced, tributes have poured in from many people in the hip-hop industry.

Rapper Playboi Carti posted several pictures and videos of Lamar to his Instagram Stories, while R&B singer Jacquees wrote on X: “Rest in Peace my brother Rich Homie Quan. I love you for Life.”

On Instagram, Migos rapper Quavo shared a photo of himself alongside late bandmate Takeoff, who tragically died in 2022, Young Thug, Rich Homie Quan, and Offset. The 33-year-old captioned it: “May God be with US never saw this being apart of our journey.”

Lamar's collaborator 2 Chainz also posted a heartbreaking tribute, writing: “Dam lil brother, we just spoke about shooting a video, special prayer for you and your family, and pray for any and everybody that’s dealing with something. my condolences bru.”

Grammy-winning star Megan Thee Stallion also shared an image of the late rapper, which she captioned: “RIP to one of the best.”

According to BBC, Lamar's cause of death is not known. Local medical authorities have announced that an autopsy is scheduled for Friday (September 5).

In an interview posted just one day before the news of his death, Lamar opened up about his plans in music, revealing: "We got a plethora of music. I just want people to appreciate the music. The times we in, you play a song, and that s*** old in two days. When I get in the studio, I’m passionate about it, so I don’t want to drop music on deaf ears.

"I want to have marketing - I want to cross my T’s and dot my I’s,” he said, suggesting that he’d drop before his birthday, October 4.
