Horrified bystanders heard gunshots ring out at around 10.40PM on Sunday night after a gunman opened fire in front of the iconic hotel's famous fountains.

The incident was also caught on camera as a bystander happened to be filming a livestream at the time, per the Metro.

According to reports, a man wearing a baseball cap and sunglasses appeared to point a gun before seven shots were heard ringing out as terrified onlookers screamed and ran for cover.

One woman close to the scene is heard screaming: "Are you f**king kidding me?!" as the devastating incident unfolded.

Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department (LVMPD) undersheriff Andrew Walsh confirmed in a press conference that two people had died.

He added that it is believed to be an isolated incident sparked by a "conflict on social media", adding that they believed they know the identity of the shooter, though no arrest has yet been made.

LVMPD earlier confirmed that they'd attended 3600 block of S. Las Vegas Boulevard at 10.40pm on Sunday and that a homicide investigation had been launched.

Police officers had been on patrol near where the shooting occurred at the time of the incident, as Walsh added: "Officers immediately ran towards the gunfire, and they found two victims who were lying on the sidewalk suffering from apparent gunshot wounds."

He added that "medical aid" was administered to the victims by first responders but they were not able to be saved.

"At this point, we believe we have the suspect identified and that this is an isolated incident, knowing that the suspect and the victim had previously engaged in some type of conflict using a variety of social media platforms," Walsh told reporters at the press conference.

He added: "Every effort is being made by members of the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department to locate, apprehend and arrest the suspect who is responsible for this crime."

The area around the Bellagio Hotel is always densely populated with locals and tourists, largely due to the spectacle of the dancing fountains which are set to music.

Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department also confirmed on X (formerly Twitter) that the shooting did not take place inside a casino, and warned people to stay away from the area in the immediate aftermath.

It wrote in a statement: "We are responding to a shooting in the 3600 block of S. Las Vegas Boulevard. The shooting did not occur inside a casino. Please avoid the area."
