A cause of death has been disclosed for YouTuber Ben Potter, best known as Comicstorian.

The 40-year-old internet personality ran a YouTube channel on which he regularly discussed his opinions of comic books and superhero products such as the Marvel and DC universes.

News of Potter's untimely death was revealed by his wife Natalie on Monday (June 10), as she wrote on X (formerly Twitter) that her husband passed away due to an "unfortunate accident".

"Two days ago, on June 8th, my husband, Ben Potter, passed away in an unfortunate accident," she said. "To many of you, he was Comicstorian, voicing stories from across multiple different mediums. To his loved ones, he was one of the best and most supportive individuals anyone could ask for."

Natalie penned that Potter was " loving and genuine" as a "husband, a son, a brother, a friend, or even just a stranger," adding: "He was someone who would listen and make time for his loved ones. He would do his best to make everyone laugh and make sure they were okay. He was our rock and he'd reassure his loved ones whenever they needed it."

"He was my world and I need time to be with friends and family. I have so many things I need to figure out but firstly, I need to grieve," she continued. "I ask that you respect my privacy as well as everyone else's. Right now my priority is preserving everything he's built and I don't have any plans beyond that."

Devastated fans took to the comment section to share their condolences as one user wrote: "He did so much for so many. I am absolutely gutted to hear this. Rest in peace, Ben."

Another said: "Incredibly heartbreaking, Comicstorian was an absolutely incredible YouTuber that pioneered so much and got so many people into reading comics. Devastating news. Rest in peace."

A third added: "My heart completely sank reading this, oh my god…I'm extremely sorry for your loss, Nathalie. Ben's name rung so many bells in the comic book community & is a main reason why so many of us are involved with characters the way we are today. May his soul Rest in Peace."

According to a press release obtained by PEOPLE, the Colorado State Patrol revealed that the content creator was killed in a single-vehicle car crash on Saturday, June 8, which occurred at 9:19AM local time on I-25 near Fort Collins.

“The Windsor resident was southbound on I-25 at milepost 267.5 when his silver Toyota 4Runner traveled off the right shoulder of the interstate. He continued to cross over the frontage road paralleling the interstate before rolling his vehicle multiple times,” the release said.

Officials said that Potter was wearing his seatbelt at the time of the horrific accident, however, he “succumbed to injuries from the crash while at the scene".

The content creator was the only person in the vehicle, and no other vehicles were involved, Colorado State Patrol added. An investigation into the cause of the crash remains ongoing.

Authorities have told TMZ that there are no indications drugs, alcohol, or excessive speed were involved in the fatal incident.

Ben, who launched his channel in 2014 and gained over 3 million subscribers, shared his last video - titled Why DC's Reboots Beat Marvel - just a day before his death.

Our thoughts remain with Ben's family, friends, and fans at this time.
