Most of us, at one point or another, have had a wrong number experience. Perhaps we've tried to call our local Pizza Hut at 11 pm and ended up talking to some confused old woman from the next town over, or received a cryptic
text message that was intended for someone else and had to send the ol' "sorry, but who is this?" response.
However, with all the millions of number combinations in the world, it's very unlikely that we'll end up getting in contact with someone all that significant.
But, as Charlyn Willis discovered, it's not impossible.
Willis, a 28-year-old woman from Georgia, made a tiny slip-up in a very important text message to her sister last week and ended up sending news of her
engagement to Buffy star, Sarah Michelle Gellar.
Apparently, in her rush to share the fantastic news, Willis mistyped her sister's number by just one digit. Instead of going to a dead number, though, the message reached everyone's favorite vampire slayer - who took the wrong number text pretty well, as it happens.
Rather than just brush it off as most of us would, Gellar actually took the time to post a congratulatory message to Willis on
Facebook.
"This is #CharlynWillis. She got engaged yesterday, and meant to text her sister, but in all the excitement, got me instead," Gellar wrote. She then encouraged her fans to join her in celebrating the stranger's happy news.
So far, the post has been shared over a hundred times, and has drawn in over 12,000 reactions from fans of the actress.
Willis herself saw the post, and wrote back to Gellar with an invitation to her wedding:
"Omg! Thank you
Sarah! His name is Dennis! Thank you so much for this. You’ve truly made my engagement experience even more of a life changer! Please know when we set a date, I’ll be reaching out to invite you, Freddie, and the kids!"
She went on:
"And to everyone who has written their well
wishes and congratulations, THANK YOU SO MUCH! My fiancé Dee and I are absolutely floored and grateful for all of the love extended to us. Thank you again and YES, once we set a date, we’re definitely going to invite SMG, Freddie and their kids to the wedding."
Other people were amazed at the coincidence, with the top commenter saying, "Well that's one hell of a wrong number."
Most of all, though, people were impressed that Gellar took the time to get back to Willis - let alone share the interaction on Facebook.
"That would be one of my dream misdials. So awesome that you would take the time," wrote one fan. "I’m sure she’s a doubly happy lady!"
"
Congratulations #CharlynWillis!!! Many blessings for a happy marriage!" said another. She added, "Sarah Michelle Gellar, how amazingly sweet are you to not only respond to a wrong number, but to spread the joy!"
It certainly was a lovely gesture for Gellar to share her happiness for Willis and her soon-to-be husband, and I'm sure it added that extra little bit of joy to Willis' already amazing day. Congrats to the happy couple, and props to Gellar for spreading the love!
