Ask most people what they think of notorious mass-murdering dictator Josef Stalin and most will tell you he was a really bad egg. Mind you, that practice he had of rewriting the history of his country by doctoring photos to remove people he didn't want to be in them - there's something in that. It's ruthless, insane and egomaniacal, yes. But who among us can honestly say we don't have some photos that we really like because they remind us of a great holiday, or because we look really great in them, or any number of reasons, but we're kept from truly enjoying them because they feature an ex who now brings a lot of bad associations to the photo itself? Wouldn't we all do as Stalin did and do a little editing of our own personal history to get rid of some bad memories if only there were some way to do it? Well, one clever entrepreneur offered this exact service on Twitter, with some very amusing results...
[post_page_title]It Starts Innocently Enough...[/post_page_title]
Whether or not this Twitter user has much of a professional background in graphic design or was just throwing this idea out onto the internet a propos of nothing, she seems pretty serious about her offer to Photoshop exes out of photos for $10 apiece.

Hard to know if this started out at least partly tongue-in-cheek, but people certainly came back with some sincere requests.
[post_page_title]The First Attempt[/post_page_title]
Here's the first photo submission she received - one of these two looks much happier to be at this picnic in the park anyway, so the writing's very much on the wall already for this relationship.

Enter our hero, ready to work her magic and make it possible for this lady to enjoy this photo again.
[post_page_title]Abracadabra![/post_page_title]
And just like that, he's gone! No longer doomed to look at a picture of herself and some weird bored-looking guy in a park, this lady can now just enjoy the sight of herself and her dog having a fun picnic together!
[caption id="attachment_4960" align="aligncenter" width="800"]
had

And who wouldn't want that?
[post_page_title]Doubt Creeps In[/post_page_title]
Mind you, our hero had to step in to defend the fact that she had in fact Photoshopped him out in response to suggestions that he looked so weird in the original photo that she must have Photoshopped him in in the first place.
[caption id="attachment_4961" align="aligncenter" width="800"]

I guess the fact that he looks so weird and tacked-on in the first photo is testament to just how much that relationship wasn't quite working?
[post_page_title]Another Job[/post_page_title]
After proving her skills at removing unwanted memories, the jobs came pouring in. This guy no longer has to superimpose a clown's head onto this photo in order to look at it without painful flashbacks.

Now he's got a nice photo of himself just chilling at the beach - that's much better!
[post_page_title]More Happy Customers[/post_page_title]
This woman must have spent years trying to look at this delightful photo of herself having fun on a swing only to be reminded of the guy she's left behind - hexappeal to the rescue once again!
[caption id="attachment_4963" align="aligncenter" width="800"]
Credit - Twitter @nahtchristine[/caption]
This is an advanced job, as she's even managed to remove his hands, both of which he's placed on his girlfriend as she swings. Painting out each individual finger must have taken a while!
[post_page_title]Yet Another[/post_page_title]
This woman, posing with her kitten, must have been very reluctant to just delete such a cute photo, but it seems a shame she has to see her ex's big grinning head every time she looks at it.
[caption id="attachment_4964" align="aligncenter" width="800"]
Credit - Twitter @bramflake[/caption]
Hey presto! Just her and her cat! A great improvement!
[post_page_title]Another Clown Head[/post_page_title]
The trend of covering up an ex's face with a clown's head is back again and, once again, our hero hexappeal makes it completely unnecessary with another expert digital removal.

True, it now looks like this woman went to the prom on her own, but hey, good on her for owning it, I guess.
[post_page_title]A Sad Story[/post_page_title]
This next request comes with its own sad story attached - all this woman wants to do is to be able to look back and remember being Student of the Year without being reminded of her terrible ex. Is that so much to ask?
[caption id="attachment_4966" align="aligncenter" width="800"]

Things get competitive here, as hexappeal's original post has become so popular that others vying for her crown are ready to swoop in and poach the next big job from her.
[post_page_title]A Second Hero Enters[/post_page_title]
Another fine job from our old friend...wait, what? Looks like another Photoshop wiz has swooped in and done the work on this one!

Hope our original Photoshopper got some sort of finder's fee for this one.
[post_page_title]Further Requests[/post_page_title]
In fact, people were enjoying the thread so much by this point that they were throwing in outlandish requests of their own that require a bit of extra-sensory perception.

next

I can't help but feel that asking a graphic designer to accurately predict someone's next boyfriend and Photoshop them into a picture is a bit of a tall order.
[post_page_title]Looking Happier[/post_page_title]
Soon enough, people started observing that the woman in the first picture even seemed to look happier without her ex!
[caption id="attachment_4969" align="aligncenter" width="800"]
Credit - Twitter @BiscuitofYork[/caption]
Maybe this is why Stalin started doing it in the first place - maybe he just thought he looked happier on his own?
[post_page_title]High Praise[/post_page_title]
And as the jobs keep rolling in, so too does the praise.
[caption id="attachment_4970" align="aligncenter" width="800"]
everybody
Credit - Twitter @ItaliaLione[/caption]
Mind you, not everybody on the internet felt she did a totally flawless job on that first picture...
[post_page_title]A Slight Mistake[/post_page_title]
A couple of accounts got very eagle-eyed and noticed that, while the ex in question was gone and forgotten, a little part of him managed to stick around.
[caption id="attachment_4971" align="aligncenter" width="800"]
some

Mind you, it's nice to have some kind of thing to hold onto and remind you of old relationships, right?
[post_page_title]The Shoe Again[/post_page_title]
Oh no! Sometimes when you make a tiny mistake that only one person notices, you can feel like you got away with it. But when lots of people start spotting it, it starts to feel like you'll never live it down.
[caption id="attachment_4972" align="aligncenter" width="800"]

Still, they didn't need to call her professionalism into question while doing it!
[post_page_title]Another Rival[/post_page_title]
And, shoe or no shoe, I think we can all agree that her work is considerably better than that of the, er...less naturally talented Photoshoppers who tried to undercut her prices.
[caption id="attachment_4973" align="aligncenter" width="800"]
Credit - Twitter @j87063973[/caption]
Maybe it's just me, but I feel like it's a bit easier with that one to tell that something's not quite right.
[post_page_title]A Big Order[/post_page_title]
By and large, the people of the internet are impressed with her work. This woman got in touch seemingly with the promise of a very big order - sounds like she's got quite a few photos that need correcting.
[caption id="attachment_4974" align="aligncenter" width="800"]
Credit - Twitter @00sgurl[/caption]
Mind you, she's only offering the same price as the one our Photoshopper originally quoted for just one photo, so she doesn't seem to have much of a head for business.
[post_page_title]One Final Request[/post_page_title]
And here's one last daft request - calling for her to make a qualitative judgement on who this stranger could feasibly stand a chance with, and then Photoshop in people who don't fit that category. Another tall order.
[caption id="attachment_4975" align="aligncenter" width="800"]
Credit - Twitter @2kew4u[/caption]
Quite why he wants these pictures is anybody's guess. Will anybody believe him?
[post_page_title]Business Expands[/post_page_title]
Eventually, our Photoshopper has been inundated with so many requests that she has no choice but to increase her prices. The story of a truly successful business built from the ground up.
[caption id="attachment_4976" align="aligncenter" width="800"]

We wish her every success and I can't wait to see the business inevitably expand into the world of predicting people's future partners and Photoshopping them in.
