President Biden's German shepherd has just made history by becoming the first-ever rescue dog to live in the White House.
The Democrat leader has two dogs, named Champ and Major respectively, who are both joining him and First Lady Jill Biden as they move into 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue in Washington D.C.
Take a look at President Biden's inaugural address in the video below:According to TMZ, while Champ has been a part of the Biden family since 2008, Major was fostered relatively recently in 2018, after Joe and Jill Biden's daughter, Ashley, informed them that a new litter of puppies needed a temporary home.
However, while caring for the German Shepherd pup, they came to enjoy his company so much that they later chose to adopt him permanently from the Delaware Humane Society.
Major is said to be a friendly and obedient dog, although his high energy did cause trouble when Biden fractured his foot while out playing with him back in November.
People magazine reports that the Bidens decided to raise money for the Delaware Humane Society, with an unconventional charity ceremony made in honor of Major called an "indoguration."
Hosted by Major's former rescue home in association with Pumpkin Pet Insurance, the virtual Zoom fundraiser hosted over 7,400 animal lovers in a massive celebration of the First Dog and raised over $200,000 for DHA.
People reports that these vital funds will then be used to assist pet owners who are struggling to care for their beloved animals due to the financial impact of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Per People, DHA's executive director, Patrick J. Carroll commented on the fundraiser by stating:
"Our DHA Team is truly astounded by the love and support we have received, in honor of Major. We celebrate each and every time one of the animals in our care finds its forever home, and this one calls for a special celebration!
"Thank you to everyone who joined us for the Indoguration and for the generous outpouring of donations. They will enable DHA to start this new year in a strong position and will help so many animals and people. We are incredibly grateful."
Meanwhile, Pumpkin Pet Insurance's CEO Alexandre Douzet added: "We are completely blown away by the support this event received and the incredible generosity shown towards the Delaware Humane Association.
"Helping as many animals as possible is part of our DNA at Pumpkin Pet Insurance, and we are so pleased to have worked with DHA's amazing team to ensure they are well-equipped to accomplish their organization's mission as we begin this new year."
