Every year since 1990, TC Candler and The Independent Critics have published a list of the 100 most
beautiful female faces seen in the media over the past 365 days. In contrast to many other
lists of this sort, the 100 Most Beautiful Faces list seeks out people from all over the world, rather than just focusing on famous faces from the US.
In fact, many people might not even recognize the woman who achieved the top spot - but that's the whole point of the project.
According to the description,
"Unlike most other annual beauty rankings, the 100 Most Beautiful Faces List is not a popularity contest and it is definitely not country specific. It is not about the hottest or the most famous celebrity. Rather, the list attempts to inform & broaden public opinion, instead of reflecting it."
So who made the cut?

Well, coming in at number 100 was Cara Delevigne, who is most recognizable as a supermodel, but who has also had acting roles and recently published her first book. Keira Knightley also appeared pretty high up in the list at number 92 - but she previously made number one in 2005, and has appeared in the project 16 times in total.
Unsurprisingly, many of the women on the list come from acting or modeling backgrounds. This includes Kate Beckinsale, a British actress who is known mostly for her roles in action films, who settled in at number 70. Bizarrely, though, the list has described her as a "Pantomime Horse".
Selena Gomez also made the top 100 at a very respectable 56th place, and Natalie Portman made her 20th appearance on the list, this time coming in at number 50. However, both those women were beaten in the rankings by arguably the hottest
Game of Thrones star, Nathalie Emmanuel, who plays Missandei (Daenerys' right-hand woman) in the hit HBO series.
Also in the top 50 were French actress Marion Cotillard, British actress
Sophie Turner - another Game of Thrones star - and Australian actress
Margot Robbie.
In the number one spot, however, was Liza Soberano, a Filipino-American actress and model. While she isn't as well-known as many of the others on the list, she is undeniably beautiful, and many were happy to see her take the top spot.

Speaking about the list on YouTube, TC Candler said:
"What originally started off as a small project has grown into a yearly internet phenomenon. In recent years, the list has garnered over 3 billion social media impressions and hundreds of millions of views.
"It is widely considered to be the most internationally recognized and prestigious list of its kind. The list has been acknowledged / personally thanked by over 300 celebs that have been included on the lists over the years."
It also pointed out the importance of representing international beauty, rather than focusing on a very localized group of people.
"The list introduces new faces to countries they ordinarily would not reach. The Independent Critics search far and wide, listening to the many millions of suggestions submitted by the public over the past couple of decades, and they then put together a list representative of the modern ideal of worldwide beauty."
