There are two types of friends in this world; those who dote on you endlessly, and those who get immeasurable amounts of joy from roasting you on everything from your sartorial choices to your lack of love life. The latter is surely an indicator of a stronger friendship. I mean, the closest friends often feel like family, and who throws shade better than your nearest and dearest?

It's a well-known fact that people tend to embellish their lives to varying degrees of separation on social media. We've all been guilty of showcasing a glossy, filtered version of reality to our friends and followers at one time or another, but some people's fibs are a bit more egregious than others. That's why, when someone pops up to burst the bubble of Instagrammable veneer, people tend to sit up and pay attention.
Take the example of Instagrammer Casey Sosnowski. Casey was planning a hike at Lake Okahumpka Park and Trail in Florida. Taking to Instagram, Casey posted a fetching picture of herself that had all the classic ingredients of successful Instagram post.
She was looking good, wearing some sleek gym wear, and posing on a hot summer's day with the sun shining. Green bushes and trees can be seen in the background, and she even captioned the post: "Nature is the ultimate healer to all our problems."
There was just one problem: Casey wasn't actually on a hike at all. She was actually posing in her back garden, taking the phrase: 'fake it till you make it' to new extremes.
However, not wanting her to get away with the lie, her sister Carly took to Twitter to post a screengrab of her post, along with a picture of her posing in the garden, and wrote: "My sister said she was going hiking ... this is our backyard."
The post quickly picked up a lot of attention from other Twitter-users, accruing over 300,000 likes and over 40,000 retweets in a few short hours. Casey later posted a follow-up, in which she shared the tweet and wrote: "I feel personally attacked." Busted Casey! Better luck next time!

It's often said that true friends are worth their weight in gold, and the old saying couldn't be truer. Take the ladies above, they've known each other fifty years! Let's face it, we're all guilty of taking social media just a little bit too seriously at times. But would you ever confront someone about unfollowing you on one of your online platforms?
Well, one TikTok user has divided the internet over her "petty" revenge on one of her boyfriend's friends after she learned that he had unfollowed her on Instagram.
Recently, Anna Birmingham was invited to take part in her boyfriend's friendship group's Secret Santa. While she explained that she gets on with most of his friends, one friend "hurt [her] feelings a little bit" after he unfollowed her on Instagram.
Admitting that she is "really freaking petty", she explained, "Now I know this is really stupid, but to me, the message that sends is, I don’t like you, I don’t care about your life, and the mere sight of your photos makes me sick."
Fortunately for Anna, she ended up getting this specific individual as her Secret Santa gift recipient.
And the TikToker could not let the "incident" slide without getting him something "very nice" with "a little splash of petty".
Part of the gift was... a Christmas card that "cordially invites" him to refollow her on Instagram. Genius!
However, not everyone agreed that this was a good idea.
One person said: "It's scary how obsessed people are with social media and who follows them/doesn't."
Another said: "How do people even have time to notice who follows/unfollows them."

For the naysayers, Anna made sure to provide a disclaimer, explaining: "It's not that deep guys!! [It was] a joke! He thought it was funny! [My] bf encouraged it and thought it was funny! [Everyone] laughed. JOKE!!"

Anna said as much in a follow-up video, explaining again, "It’s not that deep. The card was a lighthearted joke. I’m very aware that social media isn’t everything, which is why I am clearly exaggerating and making a joke."
She also explained in the video that her boyfriend's friend unfollowed her during the election as they have different political beliefs - which she said she understands completely.
Plus she did get him more than just the "petty" card - she also got him a bottle of Bourbon and a drinking game.
Unfortunately, he has not yet followed her back, but she did say in the comments that "he said he would consider it."
Millennials have a reputation for being obsessed with selfies, but it's important to take photos as you go through life. Those pictures capture a moment in time - your high school graduation, your trip to Paris, that time you met Selena Gomez. When you get old, those images will trigger happy memories.
That is, unless your friend took the photo, and totally screwed it up. Your high school graduation pic has bad framing. Your pic by the Eiffel Tower has horrible lighting. And so your pic with Selena Gomez is so blurry you can't even tell it's her! When you look at those images, all you think about is much you want to strangle your friend.
Well, you're not alone. On Twitter, people are sharing great photos they took of their friends, versus terrible photos their friends took of them. If you don't roast them in public, they'll never learn!
Well, now you guys and girls are famous for taking terrible photos. Hopefully this public shaming will encourage you to improve your skills. After all, filters can only do so much. When I was in New Zealand, I visited the Hobbiton Movie Set, and my friend took a blurry photo of me in front of Bag End. No matter how many filters I try, it never looks good. Always check the pic after it's taken, I guess.
We all have different methods of dealing with feeling down. Some of us like to snuggle up with a good movie, others prefer going out and getting some fresh air, and many of us resort to the good old-fashioned method of 'just eat whatever you can find in the fridge until you forget why you were sad'.
However, I refuse to believe that anybody finds comfort in 'inspirational' posts. 'Everything happens for a reason' does nothing for me when the vending machine has swallowed my last coin, 'dance like nobody's watching' isn't going to change the fact that I move with all the grace of a drunk sumo wrestler, and 'be your best self' doesn't help much when my best self just wants to listen to bad nineties music and maybe take a nap. If anything, inspirational quotes make me feel worse.
That's where 'unspirational' quotes come in - the Instagram account that eschews the conventional 'positive' message in favour of something much more realistic. Take a read through these, and tell me they don't make you feel better.
