Amber Heard revealed on the stand that she isn't surprised by Kate Moss' last-minute testimony in support of Johnny Depp, saying that's the kind of power he holds over people.
After hearing more than 100 hours of testimony over six weeks, the 36-year-old Aquaman star is entering her final days at trial in the $50 million defamation lawsuit against her former husband Depp.
The 58-year-old Pirates of the Caribbean star is claiming Heard defamed him in an op-ed published in 2018 by the Washington Post titled: "I spoke up against sexual violence — and faced our culture’s wrath. That has to change".
While Depp isn’t named in the piece, his legal team argues that it contains a "clear implication that Mr. Depp is a domestic abuser", which they say is "categorically and demonstrably false". Heard is countersuing for $100 million.
Per Insider, the actress returned to the stand on Thursday (May 26) where she was questioned by Depp's legal team about his expert witnesses and their contradictions to her version of events.
Watch Heard's testimony below:"I know how many people will come out and say whatever for him, that's his power," Heard said. "That's why I wrote the op-ed, I was speaking to that phenomenon — how many people will come out in support of him and will fall to his power."
On Wednesday (May 25), Depp's ex-girlfriend Moss testified to dispel a rumor referenced by Heard that Depp pushed her down a set of stairs at one point in their relationship that lasted from 1994 to 1998. Moss stated that she slipped after a rainstorm and that Depp never abused her in their relationship.
"He is a very powerful man and people love currying favor with powerful men and I know that firsthand, I've lived it," Heard said, disregarding the testimony.
Depp's attorney, Camille Vasquez, mentioned the supermodel's testimony during her cross-examination of Heard and said that she must have been surprised by Moss dismissing the rumor, which could raise questions about her credibility.
Heard responded that she isn't stunned by the revelation and referenced the courtroom as an example that people would do anything to support her ex-husband.
"I know how many people will come out of the woodwork to be in support of Johnny. It's clear from this courtroom how many people will do that," she expressed.
In regards to Moss, Heard said her testimony didn't make any difference to her: "I didn't expect her to show up or not to show up. It didn't matter."
"It doesn't change what I believed at the time when we were on the stairs, and I thought he was going to kill my sister when she was on top of the stairs," she continued.
"Everyone who was around in the 90s and the early aughts knew that rumor," Heard added. "I heard that rumor from multiple people. Of course, that's what flashed through my head when my violent husband not only swung for me, but all of a sudden swung for my sister. Of course, I thought of that."
Both sides are expected to give closing arguments on Friday, after which the jury will begin deliberations.
