Amber Heard has reportedly sold her house in California just a couple of months after being ordered to pay Johnny Depp $8.35 million.
On Wednesday, June 1, seven jurors in Fairfax, Virginia, ruled in favor of the 59-year-old Pirates of the Caribbean actor and awarded him over $10 million in damages.
The jury ruling meant that the 36-year-old actress was found guilty of having defamed Depp for the domestic abuse claims she made in a 2018 op-ed in The Washington Post.
As a result, Heard must pay her ex-husband $8 million in compensatory damages and $350,000 damages, however, she claimed that she does not have the funds to pay the amount in full.
According to TMZ, the Aquaman actress has now sold her Yucca Valley home in the California desert for $1.05 million - almost double the price she originally bought it for.
The home is said to have been purchased in 2019 through an anonymous trust with ties to the Aquaman star and it is not officially known whether her decision to sell the property is related to the amount she owes Depp.
After the verdict ruling, the Danish Girl actress' legal team claimed that she is unable to pay the $8.35 million she owes Depp in damages.
Heard's team officially appealed against the ruling on July 21, and said there were errors made during the trial that had discouraged the jury from reaching a "just and fair verdict".
Later, the Edward Scissorhands actor filed an appeal against the court's decision to award Heard $2 million in punitive damages - due to one of Depp's attorney's being found liable for defamation.
Heard was also denied a request for a mistrial a week before after arguing that one of the jurors shouldn't have been eligible to serve on the case.
Her team said that the juror summons had been intended for his father - who has the same name and lives at the same address.
Also, newly-unsealed court documents obtained by The Daily Beast indicate that Heard may have walked away from a divorce payout from Depp that could have run to $16 million.
The outlet said it had seen documents suggesting she overlooked advice from her legal team to pursue Depp for the maximum cash after they filed for divorce in 2016.
The actress' attorneys implored that she pursues what they felt were "tens of millions of dollars" she was permitted to through her ex-husband's Pirates of the Caribbean profits.
They alleged that because Depp made Pirates of the Caribbean 5 during the marriage, it was "community property" and an asset to which she was entitled.
