Social media users can't stop talking about Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo after the first look at their upcoming film together.
We got a glimpse of the official teaser trailer for the movie musical Wicked: Part One during last night's Super Bowl show, which gave us a more in-depth look at Cynthia Erivo as Elphaba and Ariana Grande as Glinda.
Other notable names that make appearances in the film are none other than Bridgerton's Jonathan Bailey as Fiyero as well as Everything Everywhere All At Once actress Michelle Yeoh portraying Madame Morrible and Jeff Goldblum, best known for his previous roles in Jurassic Park among other projects as the Wizard.
Have a look at the teaser below:The movie, directed by Jon M. Chu, is a prequel set to tell the story of how the Wicked Witch of the West from The Wizard of Oz comes to be and has been a hot talking point online due to multiple creative aspects - but recently more so thanks to Grande's scandalous whirlwind romance with one of her cast mates, Ethan Slater.
Yikes.
Anyway, after all that anticipation, the first teaser dropped on the grandest stage in sports entertainment: The Super Bowl.
Social media users took to the comments to express their opinions on the first look, with many commending the visuals.
"...I think this looks stunning. Wicked is what got me into performing 12 years ago, it means the world to me and watching this made me feel like a kid sitting in the theatre again," wrote one user while another added: "Finally Silver Slippers! But this look tremendously beautiful and expensive!"
Others also spoke about Grande manifesting her own dreams.
"Back in 2011, Ariana tweeted about her love for the Broadway show and dreamed that someday she could play Glinda. Now she's fulfilling her dream playing Glinda in this movie with support from Kristin Chenoweth herself, I'm so proud of her," this user commented.
Speaking of the project, Chu told the excited crowd at CinemaCon 2023 back in April that "This movie has everything: giant musical numbers, big action pieces. And using a classic story you all know, The Wizard of Oz."
"At the end of the day, it's actually not about those things. It's about change and [how] it's necessary for things to get better," the director added.
A year earlier, Erivo told Entertainment Tonight that the Wicked film adaptation would be "unlike anything you've ever seen before."
"I think we're going to enjoy the magic of it," she continued. "We're going to try and put our own spin on what we know already and show you a story about two women [who] are sisters."
Elsewhere in the interview, she also opened up about bonding with Grande so that the two could put on their best performance.
"I can tell you that Ariana is wonderful," she told the outlet. "The two of us are really starting to find our feet and find our relationship and really enjoy one another's time and space and conversations.
"She's the sweetest person," she added.
Part One of Wicked drops on November 27 while Part Two is set to be released the following year on November 26.
