Kate Hudson was forced to correct a reporter on the champagne carpet ahead of the 2023 Oscar awards on Sunday night after facing a very awkward question.
The 43-year-old actress stunned in her role as the over-the-top fashion entrepreneur Birdie Jay in the Academy Award-nominated film Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery, however, she was not nominated for her acting.
But because she is a staple in Hollywood - having starred in beloved movies like How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days and Bride Wars - she was among the notables who walked the carpet before the ceremony.
And of course, she was inevitably cornered by a reporter who wanted to get her opinion on the nominees for this year's 95th awards ceremony.
Watch the awkward interview below:To begin, the ABC journalist tried to ease the actress into the interview by wrongly saying: "Kate, you know what it's like to win an Oscar."
However, the Fool's Gold star quickly corrected the reporter and said: "I have never won an Oscar. But I’ve been nominated," referring to her 2001 nomination as Penny Lane in Cameron Crowe’s comedy-drama, Almost Famous.
"But I gave you one in my head," the embarrassed presenter responded, to which the cheerful actress graciously added: "I’m sure it’s amazing!"
A few users on Twitter shared their reactions to the uncomfortable moment, with one user writing: "The reporter on the red carpet just mistakenly called Kate Hudson an #Oscar winner and then asked, 'You seem like you’re expecting tonight will be fun, why is that?' and I just know that man makes so much more money than me."
Another person commented: "ABC is so cringy to watch work the red carpet…this moderator just told Kate Hudson congrats on her Oscar…AND SHE'S NEVER WON AN OSCAR."
A third chimed in: "Not the interviewer getting confused and telling Kate Hudson she has won an oscar omg."
However, that exchange was not the only notable interaction on the champagne carpet last night. Many people were amused by the awkwardness in Hugh Grant's interview with model Ashley Graham before the show.
The 62-year-old English appeared disinterested as the mom-of-three asked him a series of questions such as which actor or actress he is excited to see and who designed his suit.
She then questioned him about his cameo in Glass Onion, saying: "What does it feel like to be in Glass Onion? Such an amazing film? How fun is it to shoot something like that?"
The Love Actually star - looking very deadpan - then responded: "Well, I'm barely in it. I'm in for about three seconds."
After the strange exchange between the pair, Graham promptly ended the interview, given that Grant was clearly not interested. He then quickly handed the mic back and raised his eyebrows before walking off.
