Viewers have been left feeling unsettled and terrified following the trailer release of the forthcoming horror movie titled Smile.

The psychological horror film from Paramount is directed by Parker Finn and follows a psychiatrist called Rose (played by Sosie Baco), whose client is tormented by someone - or something - smiling at her which leads to her ending her life by suicide.

Rose is then haunted by the same evil and notices that everywhere she turns, she’s faced with a disturbing smile. The trailer shows that she discovers that no one lives once they’re marked so she searches for answers and fights for her own life.

Watch the trailer below but be aware that the goosebump-inducing grin may shock you to your core so much that you won’t look at a smile the same way again.

Oh, and there's one particular scene that has been leaving people aghast... you'll know exactly which one when you see it.

Watch the trailer below:

From the trailer, it's clear that Rose's patient isn't the only victim. Shortly after her death, the psychiatrist sees another patient of hers donning the same fiendish smile and when she confronts him, he yells: "You're going to die!"

Furthermore, a man who seems to be helping Rose with her case tells her: "I've found 20 cases involving 19 victims with a direct line linking them all together".

Rose is then seen visiting the one victim (played by Rob Morgan) who survived, and learns she doesn't have long left to live and has to fight for her own survival.

The trailer concludes with the protagonist facing many smilers before viewers catch that frightening jump scare from a woman in a pink sweater.

The trailer has since amassed more than 18 million views, and had people taking to the comments section to hail it as the "best horror movie trailer" they have ever seen.

One user said: "Not sure if I plan to go see this or not, but this is probably one of the best horror movie trailers that I've ever seen. It's so unsettling and really keeps you on edge throughout the entire trailer. That jump scare at the end is so effective!!!"

Another wrote: "This is actually the most spooky horror movie trailer I’ve seen in years. Props to whoever made it, usually the trailer spoils everything but this one left you with wonder and curiosity. Looked pretty scary especially the end part with the woman and the car window."

A third commented: "Love the concept. I always thought that witnessing a diabolical smile can be extremely creepy, so it'll be interesting to see how this plays out."

According to Imageantra, the reason why the director chose smiling as the concept of the movie is because smiles "are a display of warmth, friendship, kindness and something that is a primary emotion, we learn to smile as babies even before we speak".

"[Its] embedded in the essence of being human, so I wanted to see if I could turn that image around and make a smile represent something diabolical, threatening and dangerous, a predatory gesture," he added.

This exciting horror movie is set to premiere at the end of September, just in time for the Halloween buzz. It also stars Jessie T. Usher, Kyle Gallner, Robin Weigert, Caitlin Stasey with Kal Penn, and Rob Morgan.

Smile is set to be released in movie theaters on September 30.
