Amy Schumer previously criticized John Cena's comments about their sex scenes in 2015 comedy film Trainwreck.
The actress has not been shy in speaking about her experiences on set with John Cena, where their sex scenes seemed boundless and hilarious.
Cena and Schumer starred opposite one another in the title, with the former playing the latter's insecure, fitness-obsessed boyfriend.
While there are some hilarious scenes throughout the film, which also stars Bill Hader, it's Cena and Schumer's highly graphic bedroom sequence that takes the cake in terms of memorability.
In the months and years since Trainwreck's release, Schumer has joked about their time on set, even claiming that he was literally inside her while cameras were rolling.
“He was actually inside me. Who am I to stop him? It’s a whole universe, that butt. It’s not even human. It felt like having a refrigerator on top of me,” she told MTV Australia.
Speaking in a 2024 episode of Shannon Sharpe’s Club Shay Shay podcast, Cena opened up about the sex scene and how he really felt.
He told the former NFL player: “Amy is an angel, she made the environment so comfortable, and then when I got the part, eventually they were like,
"‘Yeah, it’s a sex scene. We want you to do elaborate and crazy stunt sex, and all those lines you had? We’re probably not going to use them; we’re just going to do this stunt sex scene,'” the WWE star recalled.
Cena added: “There are so many people you need to make a movie. There is nothing intimate about it. Nothing.
"So it’s real embarrassing, and on top of that, to do a comedic sex scene when you’re making fun of yourself? They were literally like, ’Try to have the most awkward sex you possibly can.’”
Following the episode's release, Schumer took to her Instagram, reacting to his comments by saying: “John, how dare you,
“That sex scene meant a lot to me, and I was, like, very into it. And I’m in love with you.”
If you hadn't guessed, the married mom-of-one's comments were a joke.
When speaking to MTV Australia, she joked about the physical demands of the scene, saying: “I think it was probably harder for him. He had to, like, do something. I just did what I usually do when I have sex. Just lay there."
"You know what? I didn’t get to feel his balls. It’s a major regret of mine. Major regret," she further joked.
Schumer made the claims while promoting the film alongside fellow comedian Bill Hader, as the actress was also asked about how many takes the sex scene needed, before speaking about how Cena was "actually inside" her.
Hader seemed to see the funny side of things, too, sarcastically claiming that wrestlers "don't fake."
