Pop star Ariana Grande released her new music video for the song 'Petal' on Friday, generating widespread discussion across social media platforms regarding her physical appearance.
The audition-themed video features the 33-year-old Grammy winner wearing a retro look heavily influenced by the aesthetic of the movie Grease. In specific scenes, she dances alongside other hopeful actresses while wearing tight black leggings, an off-the-shoulder top, a matching neck scarf, and her signature ponytail styled in tight ringlets.
The visual presentation quickly caught the attention of fans and online observers after Grande shared a snippet on her social media accounts with the caption, “petal ꕤ 。˚ music video out now.”
While many viewers focused on the creative concepts behind the release, a substantial number of comments shifted toward speculation about the singer’s weight and overall well-being. The resulting digital debate has highlighted the ongoing friction between celebrity public platforms and audience commentary.
Following the debut of the video, several fans voiced immediate anxieties regarding Grande’s slighter frame. On various social networks, individuals openly debated whether the pop star appeared healthy. “She is extremely thin and it’s concerning,” remarked one person, while another user chimed in, “I think people are allowed to be concerned for her health.” Another viewer pointed out that Grande’s “bones are literally popping out” and visible in the footage.
The conversation extended to platform comment sections, including YouTube, where users attempted to balance praise for the artistry with direct appeals regarding her health.
Someone on YouTube wrote, “as an Ari fan, the song and video are absolutely incredible concepts and incredibly executed but honestly all I can think about is how I hope she’s okay because she literally looks ill. She needs to get help.”
However, a large portion of Grande's fan base quickly moved to push back against the intense focus on her body, arguing that public evaluation of an individual's weight is inherently invasive and counterproductive.
One defender on X wrote, “If y’all actually cared about her you wouldn’t be publicly making comments about her body,” while another user bluntly urged commenters to “mind your own f**kin business.”
Other supporters insisted that an artist's physical appearance should not be treated as a topic for open forum critique, reminding audiences to appreciate the work itself rather than projecting assumptions.
Another wrote, “Leave her body alone. Ariana doesn’t exist for your commentary. She’s out here meeting fans, dropping Petal, and living her life her weight is not a public discussion. Body-shaming a woman for being thin is still body-shaming. Full stop. Protect her energy and keep the focus where it belongs: the music.”
One person ranted, “CLOCK THEM, ARIANA GRANDE. THEY BETTER STOP COMMENTING ON HER BODY, HER WEIGHT, OR HER LOOKS. It’s weird, it’s unnecessary, and she doesn’t owe anyone an explanation for how she looks.”
This is not the first instance where Grande has been the subject of public scrutiny regarding her health and size. In 2024, the performer addressed the emotional toll of these discussions during an interview where she was asked how she navigates the intense social expectations placed upon women to maintain a flawless appearance.
At the time, she stated, “I think that it’s something that is uncomfortable no matter what scale you’re experiencing it on,” adding that observations about weight are frequently “uncomfortable” and “horrible.”
During that same discussion, Grande emphasized how casual remarks from acquaintances or strangers can cross boundaries, noting, “Even if you go to Thanksgiving dinner, and someone’s granny says, ‘Oh my God, you look skinnier! What happened?’ or ‘You look heavier! What happened?’”
She further explained, “I think in today’s society, there is a comfortability that we shouldn’t have at all - commenting on others’ looks, appearance, what they think is going on behind the scenes or health or how they present themselves.”
She warned that this widespread habit is “really dangerous.”
Grande later re-shared a clip of the interview on her Instagram Stories, adding the caption, “resharing this from last year ♡ as a loving reminder to all,” while noting that “it’s hard to protect yourself from that noise.”

Ariana Grande has shared a video on TikTok where she addressed concerns about her body and slammed body shamers.
In the world of social media, it is now easier than ever to express opinions on various matters, but unfortunately, that also means that hate comments directed at celebrities are commonplace.
It's never felt easier to get in touch with celebs, because a simple comment under a social media post has every chance of being viewed by the intended target.
Perhaps something that is often forgotten is that these public figures are people too, and Ariana has addressed exactly that as she has confronted those who have commented on her body.
The 29-year-old singer uploaded a rare video to TikTok where she spoke candidly to her followers. "I don't do this often. I don't like it, I'm not good at it," she began.
Check out what the popstar had to say:"I just wanted to address your concerns about my body and talk a little bit about what it means to be a person with a body and to be seen and to be paid such close attention to.
"I think we should be gentler and less comfortable commenting on people's bodies, no matter what. If you think you're saying something good or well-intentioned, whatever it is: healthy, unhealthy, big, small, this, that, sexy, not sexy... we just shouldn't."
Ariana addressed what is commonly known as back-handed compliments, where she explained that there are ways to say something nice to somebody without it coming across as criticism.
The singer spoke about the power of simply scrolling past something that you don't like online, as opposed to taking time out of your day to make negative comments.
"There are many different kinds of beautiful. There are many different ways to look healthy and beautiful," Ariana explained.
Addressing why she posted the video, Ariana said: "The body that you’ve been comparing my current body to was the unhealthiest version of my body.
"I was on a lot of antidepressants, drinking on them, eating poorly, and at the lowest point of my life when I looked the way you consider, my healthy."
Ariana urged viewers to be gentle with the comments they make about someone else's appearance, even if the remarks are made from a "loving place", the singer expressed that the person is probably "working on it", and little comments are unhelpful.
"I just think you're beautiful and wanted to share some feelings," Ariana finished the video as she said that people should love the skin they're in.
Naturally, people were very supportive of the singer, as one person expressed: "Absolutely love this. No one deserves to have their body commented on especially when you don’t truly know the person. Thank you Ariana."
A second added: "Needed to hear all of this today. Thank you for sharing some love."
As Ariana touched on, you never know how much damage a throwaway comment can do to a person, so let's be kind.
Ariana Grande is once again urging fans to think twice before making comments about someone’s body, explaining how "dangerous" it is.
The 32-year-old pop star resurfaced a heartfelt video from a previous interview, sharing it to her Instagram Stories on Saturday with the caption, “resharing this from last year ♡ as a loving reminder to all.”
The clip originally aired in 2024, showing Grande getting visibly emotional as she opened up about the toll online criticism has taken over the years.
“I’ve been kind of doing this in front of the public and kind of been a specimen in a petri dish really since I was 16 or 17, so I have heard it all,” Grande said in the video.
“I’ve heard every version of it — of what’s wrong with me. And then you fix it, and then it’s wrong for different reasons. But that’s everything from — even just the simplest thing — your appearance, you know?”
The former Nickelodeon actress reflected on how public scrutiny shaped her experience as a young performer. She revealed how challenging it was to block out the noise, especially at an age when most people are still figuring out who they are.
“It’s hard to protect yourself from that noise,” Grande said, “when you’re young and you’re hearing all kinds of things.”
“I think that it’s something that is uncomfortable no matter what scale you’re experiencing it on,” she added. “Even if you go to Thanksgiving dinner, and someone’s granny says, ‘Oh my God, you look skinnier! What happened?’ or ‘You look heavier! What happened?’”
Grande said the culture of casually commenting on people’s appearances has become far too normalized.
“I think in today’s society, there is a comfortability that we shouldn’t have at all — commenting on others’ looks, appearance, what they think is going on behind the scenes or health or how they present themselves,” she explained.
This isn’t the first time the “Wicked: For Good” star has spoken up about body-shaming. In 2023, she delivered an emotional message to fans, opening up about her past struggles and how misleading perceptions of her health really were.
“The body that you’ve been comparing my current body to was the unhealthiest version of my body. I was on a lot of antidepressants and drinking on them and eating poorly,” she revealed.
“[I was] at the lowest point of my life when I looked the way you consider my healthy, but that in fact wasn’t my healthy.”
“I know I shouldn’t have to explain that. But I do feel like maybe having an openness and some sort of vulnerability here, good might come from it,” Grande said.
Ariana Grande has responded with humor after fans spotted an accidental wardrobe slip in a recent Instagram photo dump.
The singer shared a collection of images highlighting moments from her life, including a picture of herself petting a dog. While the dog appeared to be wearing a "do not pet" harness, social media users quickly focused on something else in the image.
Fans noticed that Grande's left breast was faintly visible through her red-and-white checkered babydoll dress. The detail sparked widespread discussion online, with many people admitting it took them some time to spot what others were talking about.
The image quickly made its way onto social media platforms, where fans shared their reactions to the accidental reveal.
“It took me 5 minutes staring at the photo to even realize,” one fan shared on Reddit.
“Oh Ari,” another wrote on a different Instagram post, while another commented: “I saw it immediately because the picture before it was in the same dress and then when she was leaned over, I was like oh my God that’s her boob.”
Not everyone saw the incident as controversial. Some questioned why the image had attracted so much attention.
“Why is everyone acting like this is the scandal of the century over a nipple?” someone questioned.
Another added: “I wonder if this is intentional?”
Grande later appeared to address the conversation herself through her Instagram Stories.
The singer shared a throwback clip featuring fellow Victorious star Elizabeth Gillies. In the video, which parodies the film Showgirls, Gillies tells Grande: “You have great t*ts. They’re really beautiful.”
Without flinching, the star replies with an approving “thank you.”
The response was well received by many fans.
“This is the best response she could have made for this,” one fan wrote online.
The social media moment comes during a busy period for Grande, who has returned to touring and releasing new music following the promotional campaign for Wicked.
She is currently on her Eternal Sunshine Tour, her first concert tour in seven years. According to the report, the tour began in early June and is scheduled to conclude with a 10-night residency in London in September.
Grande has also revealed the full 12-song tracklist for her upcoming eighth studio album, Petal, which is due for release on July 31. The album is expected to focus on themes of “moving beyond negativity.”
For now, the singer appears unbothered by the online discussion, choosing instead to laugh along with fans.
Ariana Grande's album is set to drop soon and fans of the singer are getting very, very excited. The 25-year-old singer's fourth studio album, "Sweetener," is released this Friday and the build-up to the release has been nothing short of dramatic. It's difficult to know exactly where to start, so let's take it back a few months.
Literally a matter of months ago, Ariana appeared to be in a happy relationship with rapper Mac Miller. However, despite their joint singles and social media uploads, it turns out there was trouble in paradise and the couple split unexpectedly. Then, a few weeks later, Ariana was linked to the SNL presenter Pete Davidson. Mac Miller, for his part, then reportedly crashed his car while under the influence- and social media erupted.
A few weeks passed, with people accusing the singer of causing Mac's substance use, and this is when Ariana turned into a social media savage. Since her first spat with a Mac fan, Ariana has been on a mission to shut down absolutely everybody who questions her relationship with Davidson.

She responded angrily to a fan who claimed that she had cheated on Mac and now, after confirming her engagement with Davidson and a matter of days before her album releases, Ariana has trolled someone over the state of their fingers.
Of course, as with all new releases, there are leaked copies of Ariana's album doing the rounds on the internet and it appears that some people have even managed to get their hands on physical issues.

Understandably, given the perfectly executed marketing campaign that has led to the album release, Ariana was pretty annoyed that someone had got a physical copy of the album before it released. However, rather than just throwing a basic, generic insult in the direction of the girl in question, Ariana decided to be much more ruthless and called out her fingernails.
Shock. Horror.
"i mean if somebody’s gonna leak what my hard copies looks like please handle this first ..... please. this music is..... too good for this," she wrote.
But she wasn't done there. Ariana continued on her tirade against the fan: "like a. illegal b. i worked too damn hard for this nail to be featured on my hard copy debut c. i can't," she wrote.
As mentioned, Sweetener is set for release this Friday and it's believed that the album will touch on a wide range of issues - from Ariana's relationship with Mac Miller to her newfound romance with Pete Davidson. In fact, such is her infatuation with the comedian, there is even a song named after him on the record (let's hope they don't break up, LOL!)
If there's one lesson to take from this, it's that you shouldn't mess with Ariana Grande when she's in album mode. Also, clean your nails before you start posting photos online.
Ariana Grande has once again addressed the relentless scrutiny over her appearance, emphasizing the harmful nature of unsolicited comments about her body.
In a candid new interview during the Wicked press tour, the 31-year-old singer and actress shared her experiences of being in the public eye since her teenage years.
Fighting back tears, Grande reflected on the constant evaluation she's faced: "I have been a specimen in a petri dish since I was 16 or 17, so I have heard it all."
She highlighted the challenges of growing up in the spotlight, noting that even well-intentioned remarks can be damaging.
"Even if you go to Thanksgiving dinner and someone's granny says, 'Oh my God, you look skinnier, what happened?' or 'You look heavier, what happened?' That is something that is uncomfortable and horrible no matter where it is happening."
Grande stressed the importance of refraining from commenting on others' appearances, stating, "I think today in society there is a comfortability that we shouldn’t have at all commenting on others' looks, appearance, what they think is going on behind the scenes, or health, or how they present themselves."
She described this tendency as "really dangerous" for everyone involved.
Earlier this year, Grande took to TikTok to address similar concerns, revealing that her previous appearance, which some considered "healthy," was during a period when she was at her lowest point.
She shared, "I was on a lot of antidepressants and drinking on them and eating poorly... but that, in fact, wasn’t my healthy."
The pop star's openness has sparked widespread support from fans and fellow celebrities alike. Model Bella Hadid echoed Grande's sentiments, urging kindness and understanding, and emphasizing that "you never know what someone is going through."
Grande's message serves as a powerful reminder of the impact words can have and the importance of approaching others with compassion and respect.
As she continues to navigate her career and personal life in the public eye, her advocacy for mental health and self-acceptance remains a beacon for many facing similar challenges.
