Cardi B has announced that has split from her husband Offset.
Last week, fans speculated that the music couple - whose real names are Belcalis Marlenis Almánzar Cephus and Kiari Kendrell Cephus - are no more after the two unfollowed each other on Instagram.
This all began when the 31-year-old 'Bodak Yellow' rapper uploaded some cryptic messages on her Instagram Stories, emphasizing self-love, focusing on herself, shedding dead weight, and protecting herself first.
In one of her posts she wrote: "You know when you just outgrow relationships," and in another, she said, "I'm tired of protecting people's feelings...I GOTTA PUT MYSELF FIRST."
Social media sleuths became curious as to who she could have been referring to in her messages, but after noticing that she had unfollowed the 31-year-old Migos rapper on the social media platform - and he had done the same - they believed that her post may have been aimed at him.
On Sunday (December 10) night, the Grammy-award-winning rapper took to Instagram Live to reveal that she is now single, and ready for the new year and new beginnings.
Cardi told her concerned supporters that she was not aware of how best to break the news to the world and was curious whether they had begun to work it out recently - eg: her mysterious messages.
"I don’t know if you guys have been getting clues from me from my [Instagram] lives or from my stories when I put on certain music," she said in the clip.
"I have been single for a minute now but I have been afraid... not afraid I just don’t know how to tell the world," she continued. "But I feel like today has been like a sign. The last time I got on live I kind of wanted to tell you guys but I didn't know how to tell you, so I changed my mind."
Cardi expressed excitement for starting fresh and being curious about a new year and new life: "But it has been like this for a minute now, I just took it as a sign. I want to start 2024 fresh and open. I don’t know I’m curious for a new life, a new beginning and yeah I am excited."
Fans are now flooding the 'WAP' hitmaker's social media with encouraging and supportive messages.
One user wrote: "I hate to read that. It be like that sometimes. I wish both parties the best, and hope they can co-parent in a healthy manner."
Another said: "Bless her heart, I was rooting for them but as long as she’s happy then that’s all that matters."
A third commented: "She seems at peace which makes me think she’s come to terms with it. Happy for her."
A fourth added: "Honestly I’ve grown to really like them both. Realized a lot of stuff about offset because of Cardi, I’ve learned she brought about the best in him but I can’t say he really did the same for her, so I’m excited to see what they both do onward from here, I know cardi will run 2024."
Cardi B and Offset tied the knot in 2017. They share two children, a daughter named Kulture, five, and a son named Wave, two.
The reason for their separation is not known as the two have remained tight-lipped about it.
