Donald Trump has been impeached for the second time in the course of his administration- making history as the first-ever President of the United States to face impeachment twice.
Per CNN, the vote was passed on Wednesday, January 13 by the House of Representatives with the count standing at 232-194.
The House voted to impeach Trump a week after a mob of pro-Trump protestors stormed the Capitol Building and interrupted the Electoral College's affirmation of Biden's victory in the 2020 presidential election.
Journalists and politicians inside the Capitol Building were evacuated and Congress suspended until order could be restored by riot police. A total of five people have died as a result of the violence.
Many accused Trump, who has repeatedly made unsubstantiated claims of voter fraud on the part of the Biden campaign since the former Vice President was projected to become the 46th POTUS, of inciting the civil disorder in a speech delivered to the assembled protestors prior to the riot.
Now a number of celebrities have taken to Twitter to make their feelings on the subject known.
For instance, Avengers star Clark Gregg tweeted: "and 197 reps chanting #HailHydra," in a reference to the sinister fictional evil organization from Marvel comics.
Meanwhile, actor Kirk Acevedo wrote: "IMPEACHED TWICE! Donald J. Trump has finally made history.
"It only took 231 years and 275 days. But he did it... Donald Trump is the first President in the history of the United States to be impeached twice. CONGRATULATIONS DONALD! PASS IT ON. [sic]"
Sophia Bush wrote: "Thank you @RepSpeier, and all of your colleagues who likewise voted for accountability. It matters. Democracy is worth it. Our republic is worth it."
Actor and writer Dennis O'Hare added: "Finally, the @gop begins to break the Mummy’s Curse."
James Bond and Westworld star Jeffrey Wright tweeted simply: "Impeached. Again. Bi-partisan."
Guardians of the Galaxy and Slither director James Gunn chimed in: "Trump has, in fact, been impeached, two more times than he has ever won the popular vote in any election. Trump has also been impeached two more times than he has ever been a billionaire."
Jodie Sweetin wrote: "I hope the sequel has a better ending than the first one. #Impeachment2 [sic]"
Comedian Samantha Bee wrote: "Congrats to Trump on finally getting more votes than a Clinton. [sic]"
Wanda Sykes wrote: "Happy Birthday @OfficialJLD! I hope you like the gift I got you from the House."
Billy Eichner also wrote: "What an exhausting, sickening, distracting waste of 4 years. [sic]"
Meanwhile, Star Trek actor and LGBTQ+ activist George Takei tweeted: "The importance of 10 GOP House members voting to impeach is this: It shows that it’s not about politics, it’s about courage.
"The truth is there, for those with guts enough to say it and mean it. To the ten with those guts, your country salutes you."
Not to be outdone, Star Wars star Mark Hamill provided a humorous couplet, writing: "When one impeachment won't suffice, Damn his new crimes- impeach him twice! [sic]"
Comedian Patton Oswalt laconically wrote: "This is the "gritty reboot" impeachment," while Chrissy Teigen added: "I didn’t even know you could be impeached twice. I thought it was like dying."
Per BBC News, Trump now faces a trial in the Senate where he will be prevented from ever running for president again if convicted.
According to Reuters, prior to Trump's second impeachment, Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi stated:
"The President of the United States incited this insurrection, this armed rebellion against our common country.
"He must go. He is a clear and present danger to the nation that we all love."
Meanwhile, Trump himself told ABC News:
"As far as this is concerned, we want no violence. Never violence. On the impeachment, it's really a continuation of the greatest witch hunt in the history of politics. It's ridiculous. It's absolutely ridiculous.
"This impeachment is causing tremendous anger, and you're doing it, and it’s really a terrible thing that they’re doing."
