Chris Hemsworth has explained why he regrets taking a selfie with Billie Eilish, saying they will "never be friends"...
Hemsworth may play the all-powerful Thor on the big screen, but at the 2024 Oscars, he found himself totally humbled after a brief encounter with superstar Billie Eilish.
The Marvel actor confessed that snapping a quick selfie with the 9-time Grammy winner may have ruined his shot at becoming actual friends with her.
“I got a photograph with Billie Eilish at the Oscars and I remember thinking, ‘Ah, don’t do it. Don’t do it’ and I was like ‘Nah, my kids are gonna love this,’” Hemsworth shared during his appearance on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert on Wednesday night.
Hemsworth was attending the 2024 Academy Awards with wife Elsa Pataky when he ran into Eilish and made a split-second decision to ask for a photo—for the kids, of course.
But he instantly knew it was a mistake.

“The moment I took it (the photo), I was like, ‘I went from work colleague to now like a fan.’ We will never be friends, never be best friends,” Hemsworth joked to Colbert during the show’s popular “Colbert Questionert” segment.
The selfie in question features Eilish sandwiched between Hemsworth and Pataky inside the Dolby Theatre at Ovation Hollywood on March 10, 2024.
Hemsworth kept it cool in a black suit with an unbuttoned white shirt, while Pataky stunned in a white cut-out gown bedazzled in sparkle.
Eilish was at the Oscars with her brother Finneas O’Connell, and the duo took home an Academy Award for their original song “What Was I Made For?” from the Barbie movie.

Colbert seemed surprised at Hemsworth’s fanboy moment, asking: “Have you worked with Billie?”
Hemsworth clarified that no, they haven’t collaborated, but he described them as “same industry kind of colleagues” who had been “bumping shoulders” over the years.
Colbert couldn’t help himself: “Sure, me and Anthony Hopkins, work colleagues,” he joked.
Apparently, Hemsworth didn’t learn his lesson.

Just weeks after the Oscars, he admitted to E! News that he broke the strict no-phones policy at the Met Gala—snapping “heaps of selfies” during his debut appearance at the ultra-exclusive fashion event.
“Selfies everywhere,” Hemsworth told the outlet. “A lot of selfies in my phone. Like, ‘When did I take that? Let’s delete that one.’”
Hemsworth was one of the co-hosts of the 2024 Met Gala, alongside Vogue’s Anna Wintour, and it seems the star couldn’t resist documenting the night—even if it meant breaking the rules.
Despite his A-list status, Hemsworth says big awards shows still leave him feeling like a wide-eyed fan.
Living in Australia—far from the Hollywood madness—means he’s not constantly surrounded by mega-celebrities. He and Pataky moved back in 2015 to raise their children near his parents.
So when Hemsworth finds himself in a room full of stars, he’s not immune to getting swept up in the moment.
