Chris Hughes defends ex Jesy Nelson after Katie Hopkins slams her on Twitter

Chris Hughs has defended his ex-girlfriend, Little Mix's Jesy Nelson, after Katie Hopkins directed a scathing social media post at her.

"These desperate daily pics are showing that contrivance of a documentary to be darn insincere. Girls. Be better than this. Beauty is in strength, not weakness that needs validating daily," Hopkins wrote on Twitter, alongside two screenshots of Nelson's Instagram posts.

While Little Mix fans immediately rushed to Nelson's defence, former Love Island star and the singer's ex, Chris Hughs, also took to Twitter to praise Nelson's "beauty" and "strength".

The 27-year-old wrote: "How about don't be a b*tch your whole life and let that person live. You tried it once years back, and it affected her mentally, just don't be that ars*hole."

"She has strength, she has beauty, and she has a heart that only you could dream of having," he added.

This comes after the controversial English media personality was directly name-checked in Nelson's BBC documentary Odd One Out, where she discusses the impact of online bullying, and how it even led her to consider suicide.

In one scene, the Little Mix star revisits a slew of hurtful tweets, including one sent by Hopkins after a performance on The X Factor. "Packet Mix have still got a chubbier in their ranks. Less Little Mix. More Pick n Mix," Hopkins tweeted at the time.

"All I remember feeling at that time is what's the f***ing point," said Jesy. "I've starved myself for a week and I'm still getting called fat. I could be the skinniest girl in the world and this is never going to go away. That is the pinnacle point for me when I got severely depressed".

Nelson and Hughes called time on their relationship two weeks ago, with them reportedly mutually agreeing that the relationship had "run its course".
