Daniel Radcliffe has made a surprisingly honest confession about his time as Harry Potter.
The 36-year-old actor rose to global fame playing the boy wizard across eight films over 10 years, beginning with Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone in 2001 and ending with Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2 in 2011.
During a live taping of the Happy Sad Confused podcast, interviewer Josh Horowitz told Radcliffe that fellow British actor Andrew Garfield recently watched the franchise for the first time and was hugely impressed.
"I hadn’t watched the Harry Potters until recently… and he’s [Radcliffe] really good in those Harry Potter movies. Those Harry Potter movies are really good," Garfield, 42, told Hits Radio.
Radcliffe reacted to the Spiderman actor's compliments, saying it was "cool" and described Garfield as "fantastic" and "awesome."
But then he admitted: "I disagree with him about my performance in ‘Potter,’ but that’s really nice, thank you!"
The Imperium actor has long been open about feeling uncomfortable watching himself in the films.
"I have more time now for me in the early films," he explained on the podcast. "Like, when I was 18, I would cringe watching the earlier films."
"Now, I think the early films are sweet, and now I cringe watching myself when I was 18 or 19. And I assume those dates will just keep changing as to what I find palatable of my own work," he added.
When asked if there was a particular era of the franchise he avoids revisiting, the Woman In Black star gave another blunt answer.
"I mean, I haven’t seen any of them for so long, so, all of them I guess," he quipped.
Despite Radcliffe's mixed feelings about his own performances in the wizard world, he has previously shared which entries in the franchise he prefers.
"I would take Chamber of Secrets out of those two 'cause I love the Basilisk," he said, comparing it to the first film.
He also admitted he prefers Goblet of Fire over the fan-favourite Prisoner of Azkaban.
"I know everyone wants me to say Azkaban. I know that’s how everyone else feels, but I love the stuff I got to do on the fourth movie, it was awesome. So I’ll say Goblet of Fire," he explained.
When it comes to his overall favourite, Radcliffe said Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2 takes the top spot, with Goblet of Fire coming in second.
However, he was more critical of one instalment in particular. "Half-Blood Prince is probably the bottom of the bracket for me. And that’s my own stuff. That’s not the film," he clarified.
