Dolly Parton has joked about her acting career in the new interview, saying: "I made a better wh*re than I did a secretary."
The singer, 75, told Tim McGraw in a new interview that she is selective about the acting roles she takes on and said she only goes for roles that align with her personality.
Appearing on Beyond the Influence Radio, Parton said: "If you look real close, I only take parts that are pretty close to my own personality. I have never yet done one of those scenes that was that far-fetched."
Listen to Parton on the radio show below:The singer explained that she had received a number of requests to act prior to accepting her first film role in '9 to 5' in 1980.
"When I read that part for '9 to 5,' it was a girl from Texas and she was so much like me anyway, so that was not that far-fetched," Parton said.
"Even 'The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas,' although I made a better wh*re than I did a secretary, but it was still parts of my personality that I could relate to."
TODAY reports that '9 to 5' remains a classic all the years later, and the movie itself centers on unhappy secretaries who turn on their boss.
Parton explained that she decided to take on the job because Jane Fonda and Lily Tomlin were also going to be in the movie.
"They were both so hot at the time and I thought, 'Well, if there's any time to start, this would be now because if it's a big hit, then I can share in the glory of it. If it's a failure, I can blame it all on them and I'll walk away free,'" she said.
Parton's comments about her acting career come after she recently recreated her iconic 1978 Playboy cover for her husband's 78th birthday.
"Remember, some time back, I said I was going to pose in Playboy magazine when I was 75? Well, I'm 75, and they don't have a magazine anymore," Parton said.
"But my husband always loved the original cover of Playboy, so I was trying to think of something to do to make him happy."
"He still thinks I'm a hot chick after 57 years," she added, "and I'm not going to try and talk him out of that."
Per HuffPost, Parton made history by becoming the first country music artist to pose for the cover of Playboy in 1978, however, she did not pose nude, although this was considered a risky decision at the time.
