Thousands of fans gathered on Sunday to watch the closing ceremony, which showed Paris handing the Olympics to Los Angeles, where the 2028 Games are due to take place.

The city of Angeles gathered all the big-name stars to get fans excited such as having Tom Cruise abseiling off the stadium's roof and landing in a crowd of fans before jumping on a motorbike and riding out of the stadium while holding the Olympic flag.

They also treated viewers to performances from Billie Eilish and Red Hot Chili Peppers before having rapper Snoop Dogg close the show with 'Drop It Like Its Hot and a rendition of hip-hop classic 'The Next Episode' alongside Dr Dre.

Watch Snoop Dogg's performance below:

As the 52-year-old hitmaker performed, the French language Olympic X account shared a photo from the Red Hot Chill Peppers' with the caption: "The Olympic flag on Venice Beach!"

However, eagle-eyed viewers were quick to point out that the performances were taking place in Long Beach, not Venice Beach.

"Correction* it’s not Venice Beach it’s Rosie Beach located on Long Beach California," one user said, while another exclaimed: "NOT VENICE BEACH !!!!!!!"

A third shared: "Did they really call it Venice Beach? That was Long Beach! Anyone in Belmont Shore saw them filming yesterday."

More people picked up on the mistake on TikTok, with one person sharing a clip of a commentator from a US channel also mistaking the area for Venice Beach.

"This is Long Beach," the user said while laughing, as her friend added: "And those palm trees are not real."

"Not the Long Beach erasure. That’s my city - the least pretentious of the LA beach cities," one user commented under the video.

The rapper, whose full name is Calvin Cordozar Broadus Jr, had a wild two weeks in Paris covering the Olympics for NBC.

Dr. Dre praised his collaborator and friend after the pair took the stage at a California beach as part of the closing ceremony, telling Entertainment Tonight: “It’s magical. I don’t even feel comfortable performing without Snoop."

“Something about the synergy that me and Snoop have is really interesting," he continued. “Really, Snoop, he’s the superstar. I’m the co-star when we get on stage."

“It’s different when we’re in the studio, you know? I’m the captain when we’re in the studio, but when we go outside, Snoop is the guy," he added.
