Things between the former allies have taken a dramatic turn. Trump reportedly referred to Musk as a “big-time drug addict” in private conversations with aides and allies, according to The Independent.

The former president has even suggested that Musk’s behavior - especially his online outbursts - could be linked to alleged substance use.

Musk, who previously served as a tech adviser during Trump’s presidency, has become increasingly critical of Trump on social media.

The friction seems to have exploded in recent months, with Trump reportedly blaming their falling-out on Musk’s supposed drug habits.

Musk has addressed drug use before. In a March 2024 appearance on The Don Lemon Show, he admitted to using ketamine under medical supervision to treat depression.

“I take a small amount, about once every two weeks,” he said.

“If you’ve used too much ketamine, you can’t really get work done, and I have a lot of work.”

He also described the treatment as: “Helpful for getting you out of a depressive mind state.”

But allegations don’t stop at ketamine.

A New York Times report claimed Musk used the drug so frequently it affected his bladder, and that he carried a pill box labeled with Adderall.

The investigation also mentioned ecstasy and psychedelic mushrooms in his reported rotation.

In response to the swirl of speculation, Musk posted drug test results from United States Drug Testing Laboratories on June 17, showing negative results for substances like ketamine, cocaine, methadone, fentanyl, and opiates.

However, there was a twist.

Twitter users quickly zoned in on a small but significant detail—his creatinine levels. While marked as “normal,” Musk’s report listed his level at 47.16 mg/dL, which raised eyebrows.

One user questioned: “Is that a typo or are your kidneys shutting down?”

Another added: “Too much creatine!”

And a third chimed in: “Congrats Elon Musk. Watch those creatine levels. Drink more water.”

During a past Joe Rogan Experience episode, Musk praised creatine as a brain booster: "I think it's not just for bodybuilders, it's something that can help you think more clearly."

But here’s the science: Creatinine is a waste product formed from creatine, and high levels in the blood can point to kidney dysfunction, dehydration, or muscle breakdown.

The NHS notes that normal blood creatinine levels typically range from 0.7 to 1.3 mg/dL for men, making Musk’s urine value a potential red flag, though not enough data is available to confirm anything definitive.

A spokesperson for the White House sidestepped the topic of drug testing when Musk served under Trump, instead praising his contributions to government initiatives.

“Few CEOs in America would leave the comfort of the C-suite to serve in the federal government,” said Harrison Fields, per CNBC.

“Yet Elon Musk did just that, joining the Trump Administration’s efforts to cut waste, fraud and abuse. DOGE and its core mission is now embedded in the fabric of the federal government and continues to drive efficiency and save taxpayer dollars.”
