Elon Musk has publicly responded to Donald Trump’s recent jab about his alleged drug use – by sharing the results of a drug test.

The Tesla and SpaceX CEO posted a photo on X on June 17 showing a drug test result from United States Drug Testing Laboratories.

The post appears to be a direct response to Trump’s recent comments, in which the former president reportedly referred to Musk as a “big time drug addict” during private conversations with aides and allies, The Independent reported at the time. The remark comes amid a growing public rift between the two once-friendly figures.

Their relationship has soured in recent months, particularly as Musk has become increasingly critical of Trump on social media. In response, Trump has reportedly made phone calls to various associates, questioning Musk’s behavior and attributing it in part to alleged substance use.

Musk’s drug use has been a topic of public conversation before. In March 2024, during an appearance on The Don Lemon Show, Musk confirmed that he had been prescribed ketamine by a doctor to treat depression.

“I take a small amount, about once every two weeks,” Musk said at the time (via CNN). “If you’ve used too much ketamine, you can’t really get work done, and I have a lot of work.”

He also spoke positively about ketamine’s effects, saying it can be “helpful for getting you out of a depressive mind state.” The billionaire did not deny his use of the drug but pointed out that it was prescribed and managed under medical supervision.

Still, concerns and speculation have only continued. A New York Times investigation alleged that Musk’s ketamine use was extensive enough to cause bladder issues, claiming he often traveled with a pill organizer containing up to 20 pills, some reportedly labeled as Adderall. There were also suggestions he used other substances such as ecstasy and psychedelic mushrooms.

Now though, according to Musk's X post, he has tested negatively for everything – even going as far as adding the cheeky caption "lol".

According to The Washington Post, Trump expressed concern to advisers that Musk’s drug use might be linked to erratic or antagonistic behavior toward him online. The former president reportedly cited Musk’s alleged habits as one of the reasons their alliance fell apart.

Trump and Musk's political partnership had once seemed promising. Musk served as a tech adviser during Trump’s presidency and worked on initiatives related to federal efficiency. However, those ties have since dissolved amid recent public clashes and contrasting visions.

When asked previously about Musk’s drug use and whether he had undergone any testing while working with the government, a White House spokesperson avoided the topic.

“Few CEOs in America would leave the comfort of the C-suite to serve in the federal government,” said spokesperson Harrison Fields, per CNBC. “Yet Elon Musk did just that, joining the Trump Administration’s efforts to cut waste, fraud and abuse. DOGE and its core mission is now embedded in the fabric of the federal government and continues to drive efficiency and save taxpayer dollars.”

While the political and personal tensions between Musk and Trump continue to play out, Musk’s post this week seems to serve as a public rebuttal to the swirling rumors and accusations (at least for now).

The saga, however, is likely far from over.
