At the time, his daughter, Corinne Foxx, shared an update on Instagram, reassuring fans about his condition.

"We wanted to share that my father, Jamie Foxx, experienced a medical complication yesterday," she wrote in an Instagram Story.

"Luckily, due to quick action and great care, he is already on his way to recovery. We know how beloved he is and appreciate your prayers. The family asks for privacy during this time."

Weeks later, Foxx addressed fans for the first time, posting a message of gratitude on Instagram on May 3. “Appreciate all the love!!!” he wrote. “Feeling blessed.”

In July, he elaborated further in an emotional video, sharing the impact of his health scare.

“I know a lot of people were waiting or wanting to hear an update, but to be honest with you, I didn’t want you to see me like that, man,” Foxx said in the social media post. “I didn’t want you to see me with tubes running out of me and trying to figure out if I was going to make it through.”

While he did not reveal the exact nature of his illness at the time, Foxx assured fans he was "on the road to recovery."

Per the New York Post, Foxx has now opened up even further about his health scare in a new Netflix special titled What Had Happened Was…

The Academy Award-winning actor, 56, shared shocking revelations about the ordeal, including his diagnosis of a “brain bleed that led to a stroke.”

“I was having a bad headache, and I asked my boy for an Aspirin. I realized quickly that when you’re in a medical emergency, your boys don’t know what the f*** to do,” he said during the special. “Before I could get the Aspirin [clicks his fingers] I went out. I don’t remember 20 days.”

Foxx revealed that his friends initially took him to a doctor in Atlanta, where he was given a cortisone shot and sent home.

“What the f*** is that?” Foxx quipped. “I don’t know if you can do Yelps for doctors, but that’s half a star.”

Concerned for her brother’s condition, Foxx’s sister, Deidra Dixon, took him to Piedmont Hospital, where doctors uncovered the true severity of his situation.

“A doctor told my sister the horrible news: I was ‘having a brain bleed that has led to a stroke’ and would die if I didn’t immediately go into surgery,” Foxx revealed.

Describing the experience as “oddly peaceful,” Foxx said he was unconscious during the crisis.

“I saw the tunnel. I didn’t see the light,” he said, adding humor to the somber moment. “It was hot in that tunnel. S***, am I going to the wrong place in this motherf***er? Because I looked at the end of the tunnel, and I thought I saw the Devil like, ‘C’mon.’ Or is that Puffy [Sean Combs]?”

Following the emergency surgery, Foxx’s doctors informed his sister that while he "may be able to make a full recovery ... it’s going to be the worst year of his life".

“That’s what it was,” Foxx confirmed.

Foxx said he woke up on May 4, 2023, confused to find himself in a wheelchair. He shared a deeply personal struggle.

“I couldn’t wipe my own a**,” Foxx admitted, explaining how he refused assistance from nurses during his rehabilitation.

We're happy to see that he's back on his feet and able to joke about the whole thing.
