Jamie Lee Curtis has incredible reaction to seeing Sydney Sweeney wearing 'see-through dress without bra' on red carpet
Jamie Lee Curtis had a standout moment on the red carpet at Variety’s Power of Women event in Los Angeles, where she came face-to-face with Sydney Sweeney in a striking look. Sweeney, 28, turned heads in a fitted Christian Cowan x Elias Matso gown covered in crystals. The Euphoria star chose to go without a bra, her sleek blond bob framing her face.
Curtis, 66, didn’t hide her admiration. In a video captured by Entertainment Tonight, the Halloween actress pointed up and down at Sweeney in delight before pulling her in for a hug. The interaction instantly sparked conversation online.
Curtis was famously labeled “The Body” during her early career, thanks to roles in films like Trading Places and Perfect. But she’s long pushed back against being defined by her looks. “No, no. I don’t think anyone likes to be known for something that’s exterior. I don’t believe it,” she said in a 2010 interview with CBS. “I don’t think any woman wants to be known for being beautiful or busty. I think you want to be known for who you are.”
Sydney Sweeney addresses cosmetic surgery rumors
Sweeney, one of Variety’s featured cover stars at the event, also used the moment to revisit a topic she’s spoken about publicly: the scrutiny she’s faced over her appearance. “I had someone tell me to fix my face or else I’m not going to make it. I should get Botox. I was 16!” she told the outlet.
Despite ongoing speculation, Sweeney has stayed clear of cosmetic procedures. “I’ve never gotten anything done. I’m absolutely terrified of needles. No tattoos. Nothing. I’m going to age gracefully,” she said.
She also called out online posts that compare old and new photos of her as supposed “proof” of surgery. “It’s really funny.. I’m like, ‘I’m 12 in that photo. Of course, I’m going to look different. I have makeup on now and I’m 15 years older.’ ”
Public image, controversy, and resilience
Sweeney remains vocal about keeping tabs on what’s being said about her. “I think it’s important to have a finger on the pulse of what people are saying, because everything is a conversation with the audience,” she told The Wall Street Journal.
Not all publicity has been smooth. Her collaboration with Dr. Squatch on a bathwater-based soap line was met with mixed reviews, especially after comparisons were drawn to a similar scene in Saltburn. “It was mainly the girls making comments about it, which I thought was really interesting,” she told E! News. “They all loved the idea of Jacob Elordi’s bathwater.”
In July, her American Eagle campaign stirred controversy when the tagline “Sydney Sweeney has great jeans” was perceived by some as a nod to eugenics. Critics accused the ad of promoting outdated ideas about beauty.
Sweeney, however, focused on the creative process. “I was freaking out because I was like, ‘This is perfect,’ and I was so excited,” she said in an interview with People. “When they were like, ‘We want it to be a denim campaign,’ I was through the roof.”
American Eagle responded with a statement clarifying their intent: “'Sydney Sweeney has great jeans’ is and always was about the jeans. Her jeans. Her story.”
Sweeney is currently finishing production on the third and final season of Euphoria.
